UBK Alumni Demand Expulsion of Students in Alleged Bribery Case, Issue Seven-Point Call to Restore Bung Karno University’s Reputation

BALINEWSID.COM, JAKARTA – The alleged acceptance of money by several students from Bung Karno University (UBK) has sparked strong reactions from the university’s alumni association, which has issued a seven-point demand aimed at restoring the institution’s reputation and upholding the values associated with Indonesia’s founding president, Soekarno.

The Bung Karno University Alumni Association (IKA UBK) stated that the controversy extends beyond the actions of individuals, warning that it risks damaging the image of a university that bears the name of one of Indonesia’s most respected national figures.

Achmad Boim, a member of the IKA UBK Advisory Board, formally apologized to the Indonesian public for the incident involving students who allegedly accepted money after participating in a demonstration near the Vice President’s Office.

“We, the Bung Karno University Alumni Association, sincerely apologize to all students and the Indonesian people for the actions of individuals claiming to represent UBK students who allegedly accepted money from irresponsible parties,” Boim said in a statement on Thursday (June 25, 2026).

However, Boim emphasized that an apology alone would not be sufficient to restore public trust. The alumni association called on the university leadership to take firm disciplinary action against any students found guilty of accepting bribes, including expulsion.

IKA UBK also urged the university to establish an independent investigation team to ensure that the case is handled objectively, transparently, and thoroughly.

Beyond internal measures, the alumni association called on the Office of the Vice President to provide a transparent public clarification regarding the incident. It also urged law enforcement authorities to investigate allegations that police personnel were involved in distributing money to the students after the demonstration.

According to IKA UBK, resolving the case comprehensively is essential not only to uncover the facts but also to restore the credibility of Bung Karno University.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to promoting moral leadership and safeguarding the university’s legacy, stressing that UBK must continue to uphold the values of integrity, courage, and service to the people inspired by Soekarno.

IKA UBK also appealed to all students and alumni to remain united, stay calm, and avoid being provoked by narratives circulating in public discourse. The association encouraged students to continue serving as a critical voice in defending the interests of the people while maintaining the independence and integrity of the student movement.

The controversy emerged after Muhammad Abdi Maludin, Chairman of the Student Executive Board of UBK’s Faculty of Law, admitted to receiving Rp20 million following a demonstration. He later apologized to the university community and the public and stated that he was prepared to accept responsibility through the appropriate institutional and legal processes.

For IKA UBK, however, the matter cannot be resolved solely through an admission of wrongdoing and an apology. The alumni association believes the incident should serve as a turning point for evaluating the integrity of student activism and strengthening public confidence in Bung Karno University.

The seven demands issued by IKA UBK include a public apology, firm sanctions—including expulsion—for students proven to have accepted bribes, the establishment of an independent investigative team, a transparent clarification from the Office of the Vice President, a full investigation into the alleged involvement of police officers, greater unity among students and alumni, and a renewed commitment to preserving the university’s moral values and dedication to the people’s interests.
