BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG — A man from Grobogan was found dead in a decomposed condition inside a former contractor office in the Jimbaran area, South Kuta District, Badung Regency, on Sunday morning (May 17, 2026).
The victim was identified as Ngatono, 45, a resident of Grobogan Regency, Central Java Province. His body was discovered inside the former office of CV Soma Lentera Oetama General Contractor located on Jalan Blong Keker, Gang Nakula, Cengiling neighborhood, Jimbaran Village.
The incident was first uncovered after local residents noticed a strong foul odor coming from the office area on Saturday (May 16) at around 5 p.m. local time. At first, residents believed the smell came from a dead rat and did not pay much attention.
A neighbor of the victim, I Made Sudita, said the odor became much stronger on Sunday morning at around 8 a.m., spreading to nearby houses.
Growing suspicious, the witness searched for the source of the smell by heading to the back side of the abandoned office. Upon arriving, he noticed many flies swarming the area and detected a strong odor coming from inside one of the rooms.
“The witness then looked through the window and saw a man lying inside the room,” according to information gathered from police authorities.
The discovery was immediately reported to the local neighborhood head, who then forwarded the information to police officers and local security personnel.
Meanwhile, Upik Pamungkas, the husband of the office owner, said he received information from the head of the Cengiling pecalang (traditional security unit) at around 8:50 a.m. regarding the foul odor and flies surrounding the former office owned by his wife.
Concerned about the situation, the witness attempted to contact the victim but received no response. He later went to the location with local residents and found the strong odor could already be smelled from outside the building.
“The witness called out to the victim several times but there was no answer. Shortly afterward, police arrived and conducted an inspection before discovering the victim had died,” a police source stated.
The office owner, Nopi Pauziah, said she last met the victim on Thursday (May 14) at around 4 p.m. At the time, the victim came to ask about project work because he was unemployed.
According to her, the victim had been temporarily staying at the office for approximately one month. During their last meeting, the victim appeared healthy and showed no signs of illness.
When the body was found, the victim was lying on his back on a tiled floor on top of a floral-patterned mat. He was shirtless and only wearing blue denim shorts. Police also found that the victim’s face had already begun decomposing.
Police officers who arrived at the scene immediately conducted a crime scene investigation, questioned witnesses, and secured evidence together with the forensic identification unit of Denpasar Police.
Based on the preliminary examination, police found no signs of violence on the victim’s body. The body was later evacuated to Udayana Hospital using an ambulance operated by Banser Badung Regency.
The victim’s family reportedly accepted the incident as a misfortune. Police also advised the family to file an official report with South Kuta Police regarding the incident.
The Head of Public Relations Section of Denpasar Police confirmed the discovery of the body and stated that the case remains under police investigation.
