Unidentified Body Found Decomposed in Sanghyang Forest Tabanan

BALINEWSID.COM, TABANAN – An unidentified man’s body was found in an advanced state of decomposition in Sanghyang Forest, Banjar Dinas Gunung Sari Umakayu, Jatiluwih Village, Penebel District, Tabanan Regency, on Sunday morning (June 28, 2026). Police are continuing their investigation to determine the victim’s identity and the cause of death.

The body was discovered at approximately 7:30 a.m. WITA by a local resident, I Gede Made Sutarjayasa, who was on his way to Pura Kak Resi, located about 1.5 kilometers from his home, to perform a Hindu offering ritual.

After completing the ceremony, the witness noticed a strong foul odor coming from the surrounding area. Curious about the source of the smell, he searched the vicinity and, from a distance of around 15 meters, spotted what appeared to be a human body inside a ground depression. The victim was found in a kneeling position and showed no signs of life.

Frightened by the discovery, the witness immediately left the scene and reported the incident to the head of Banjar Dinas Gunung Sari Umakayu, who then alerted the police.

Officers from Penebel Police, assisted by the Tabanan Police Identification Unit, arrived at the scene to secure the area, conduct a crime scene investigation, collect witness statements, and coordinate with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) during the evacuation process.

According to the Tabanan Police Identification Team, the body had already reached an advanced stage of decomposition, making it impossible to immediately determine the cause of death. The remains were evacuated and transported to Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar for an autopsy.

Police also recovered several personal belongings near the body, including a green tote bag, a dark blue jacket, a small pouch, a red-cased iPhone, a green rubber strap, a silver Oxva vape device, two packs of Sangobion tablets, two packs of Vitamin C, a pair of black sunglasses, a pair of brown eyeglasses, an orange raincoat, a 1.5-liter bottle of drinking water, and a Redmi headset.

Authorities said both the victim’s identity and the cause of death remain unknown. The case is currently under investigation, and police are working to identify the deceased while awaiting the results of the autopsy.
