Identity of Unidentified Body Found at Gau Beach Revealed, Police Confirm Victim from Bandung

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR — Police have identified a previously unidentified male body discovered at Gau Beach in Ungasan Village, South Kuta District, Badung Regency, as Gifar Fadillah Suryana, a resident of Bandung. April 22, 2026.

The victim was found on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m. local time. Following a series of investigations, authorities from the Water and Air Police Unit (Sat Polairud) of Denpasar City Police confirmed the identity through statements from family members and witnesses.

The Head of Public Relations of Denpasar Police stated that investigators had questioned several witnesses, including the victim’s older sister, Gita Nurlina Suryana (36), and a motorcycle owner, Pedro Baptista Abu (24), from whom the victim had rented a vehicle. Police also coordinated with forensic experts regarding the external examination and planned autopsy, as well as reviewed CCTV footage around the area.

According to the family, the victim last communicated with his sister on Saturday night, April 18, 2026. The family received news of his death on Monday morning, April 20, before confirming his identity at Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar.

Meanwhile, based on the motorcycle owner’s statement, the victim rented a Honda Scoopy in the early hours of Sunday at around 1:00 a.m., intending to go to Melasti Beach to watch the sunrise. The motorcycle was delivered to the victim’s residence in the Tegal Harum area, West Denpasar, at approximately 3:50 a.m.

CCTV footage showed the victim leaving his boarding house alone at around 4:00 a.m. He was later seen entering the Melasti Beach area at 5:43 a.m., parking the motorcycle, and walking along the shoreline toward a cliff while the tide was low.

Preliminary findings indicate that the victim could not swim. The family also found the victim’s last social media post, which showed coastal scenery and cliffs taken on the morning prior to the incident.

The family, represented by the victim’s sister on behalf of their mother, has declined an autopsy and accepted the incident as an accident. They stated they do not suspect any criminal involvement and will not pursue legal action.

The victim’s body was handed over to the family on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. local time and was transported later that day at 6:00 p.m. to his hometown in Bandung, West Java.

The rented motorcycle has been returned to its owner, while the victim’s personal belongings found in the vehicle have also been handed over to the family.

Police are continuing to search the scene for any remaining belongings and are coordinating with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) regarding weather conditions, wave patterns, and tidal data at the time of the incident.
