BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – Police in Badung have launched an intensive investigation into a suspected aggravated assault involving a firearm after a shooting at The Shady Pig on Jalan Pantai Berawa No. 168, Berawa, Canggu, North Kuta District, Badung Regency, early Friday (July 17, 2026).

Badung Police Chief AKBP Joseph Edward Purba, accompanied by officers from Badung Police and North Kuta Police, immediately visited the scene to conduct a crime scene investigation, collect witness statements, and secure evidence.

Two people were injured in the shooting: I.M.Y.M. (32), a security guard at The Shady Pig and a resident of North Denpasar, and E.A. (25), a Chinese national. The identity of the suspect remains under investigation.

According to preliminary findings, the incident began when the suspect became involved in an argument with E.A. As the confrontation escalated, security guard I.M.Y.M. attempted to intervene by standing in front of E.A. At that moment, the suspect allegedly fired a shot.

The bullet struck I.M.Y.M.’s left thigh, passed through his leg, and then hit E.A.’s left thigh. The projectile remained lodged in E.A.’s thigh, while I.M.Y.M. suffered a through-and-through gunshot wound.

Investigators recovered several pieces of evidence from the scene, including a pair of bloodstained shoes, socks, two pairs of jeans, a white T-shirt, a checkered cloth, and a copper-colored projectile believed to have been fired from the suspect’s firearm.

In addition to processing the crime scene, investigators analyzed CCTV footage, cordoned off The Shady Pig with police tape, and launched a manhunt after receiving information that the suspect may have fled to Jakarta.

Police have also questioned several witnesses who were present during the incident, completed the necessary investigative procedures, and requested visum et repertum (forensic medical examinations) for both victims to support the ongoing investigation.

The Criminal Investigation Unit of Badung Police is continuing its search for the suspect while working to establish the motive behind the shooting. Authorities are also gathering additional evidence to identify the gunman and determine the type of firearm used in the attack.
