BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – Three construction workers were successfully rescued after being trapped by rising tides beneath the cliffs near the Uluwatu Temple area in Pecatu Village, South Kuta District, Badung Regency. The dramatic rescue operation concluded safely on Sunday (June 28, 2026) morning after an overnight delay due to hazardous conditions.
The victims were identified as Rendi (20), Mansur (47), and Tarmuji (50). The incident began on Saturday (June 27) when the three men were walking along the shoreline from Nyang-Nyang Beach toward the northern section of the coast.
Upon reaching the area below the steep cliffs, the tide suddenly rose, cutting off their escape route and forcing them to seek refuge on a rocky outcrop.
One of the victims, Mansur, managed to swim through the rough waters to safety and immediately alerted the authorities about the two workers who remained stranded.
Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, I Nyoman Sidakarya, said the emergency report was received at approximately 8:40 p.m. local time on Saturday.
“We received the report at around 8:40 p.m. and immediately deployed our rescue team to the location,” Sidakarya said.
After arriving at the scene, rescuers coordinated with local authorities and assessed the cliff, which stands approximately 100 meters high. Due to poor visibility, dangerous terrain, and safety considerations, the operation was postponed until first light.
“The limited visibility made it unsafe to conduct the rescue overnight. However, the victims were in a secure position and were still able to communicate with rescuers, so the evacuation was scheduled for Sunday morning,” he explained.
The rescue operation resumed at around 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, with a rescuer descending the cliff using a rope-lowering technique to reach the stranded workers.
The first victim, Tarmuji, was successfully lifted to safety at approximately 7:24 a.m., followed by Rendi at around 7:48 a.m. using a rope-lifting system.
“All victims were evacuated safely. Their conditions were stable, and they were subsequently transported to the Pecatu Village Hall for further assistance,” Sidakarya added.
The rescue operation involved a joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team comprising Basarnas Bali, Pecatu Village police officers, local civil defense personnel (Linmas), Pecalang (traditional village security officers), the victims’ colleagues, and members of the local community.
The operation was completed successfully without further casualties.
