BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR — Concern for victims of the earthquake in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), continues to grow, with solidarity efforts coming from various groups in Bali. I Made Mudarta, Chairman of the Bali Regional Leadership Council (DPD) of the Democratic Party, donated IDR 5 million to the Bali Journalists Solidarity (SJB) to support communities affected by the disaster on Sunday (August 23, 2026).
The donation was handed over in the Renon area of Denpasar, coinciding with the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Democratic Party. The funds will subsequently be distributed to residents affected by the earthquake that struck Flores on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Mudarta said the donation reflected the Bali Democratic Party’s concern for communities struggling to recover from the disaster.
“Yes, IDR 5 million, which we are putting in,” Mudarta said.
He asked SJB to ensure that the assistance was promptly delivered to people in need. He said the donation was expected to help ease the burden on earthquake victims while strengthening solidarity among communities.
In addition to financial assistance, Mudarta conveyed his moral support to the victims and their families. He expressed hope that those affected by the disaster would be given strength and patience as they faced the difficult situation.
“I hope we can continue to support them and ask them to be patient. This is a test from God,” he said.
Mudarta said the disaster should also serve as a reminder to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and solidarity among Indonesians.
“I hope this will be a test for all of us to strengthen the values of brotherhood. We are all brothers and sisters as part of the Republic of Indonesia. We need to weave those bonds of solidarity even more tightly,” he said.
He stressed that his party’s concern would not end with the donation handed over on Sunday. Mudarta said the Bali Democratic Party would consider providing further assistance while coordinating with the Democratic Party leadership in NTT to identify the needs of affected communities.
“Hopefully, in the future, we will be able to provide more assistance. We will also continue coordinating with the Chairman of the Democratic Party’s NTT Regional Leadership Council regarding what our brothers and sisters there need,” he said.
Mudarta also entrusted SJB with ensuring that the donation reaches earthquake victims as quickly as possible.
“Please deliver this assistance. Hopefully, the situation can be resolved as soon as possible because our fellow citizens are facing this disaster,” he said.
He described Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) as neighboring regions bound by strong ties of brotherhood.
“We are one family. After all, Bali, NTB and NTT are like close siblings,” Mudarta said.
The donation formed part of the Bali Democratic Party’s social solidarity efforts during the party’s 25th anniversary celebrations. The assistance is expected to provide practical support to communities in Flores while reinforcing a broader message of solidarity: when disaster strikes one part of the country, support from fellow Indonesians can help affected communities recover and rebuild.
From Bali to Flores, the message is clear: solidarity must go beyond sympathy and be turned into concrete action.
