Kuta Police Criminal Investigation Chief Tests Positive for Ecstasy, Bali Police Pledge Firm Action

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – A police officer serving as the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit (Kanit Reskrim) at Kuta Police Station, identified by the initials Iptu MDP, has tested positive for the narcotic drug ecstasy during an internal surprise inspection conducted by the Bali Police.

The case came to light following a closed-door inspection carried out jointly by the Bali Police’s Directorate of Drug Investigation (Ditresnarkoba) and the Internal Affairs Division (Propam), as part of an effort to combat drug abuse within the police force.

Bali Police Public Relations Chief, Senior Commissioner (Kombes Pol) Ariasandy, confirmed the case on Tuesday, stressing that law enforcement applies equally to both the public and police personnel.

“Our enforcement efforts are directed not only outward toward the public but also inward. Our own personnel must also be disciplined,” Ariasandy said.

During the random inspection, Iptu MDP’s urine sample tested positive for ecstasy. Since Monday (June 8), he has been placed in the Propam detention facility at Bali Police Headquarters while investigators conduct further inquiries.

Propam investigators are currently tracing the source of the illicit drug and determining how long the officer has allegedly been using narcotics. Although he has been detained, his official position as Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Kuta Police Station has not yet been formally revoked.

The Bali Police emphasized that there will be no preferential treatment in handling the case. If found guilty of committing a serious disciplinary violation, Iptu MDP could face dismissal from the National Police through a Dishonorable Discharge (PTDH) as well as criminal prosecution under Indonesia’s narcotics laws.

“We will assess the severity of the violation. The sanctions could include dismissal from the police force, and criminal charges may also be filed,” Ariasandy added.

The incident has drawn public attention as it involves a senior investigator responsible for handling criminal cases. The Bali Police reiterated their commitment to enforcing strict discipline within the institution and ensuring that any officer involved in drug abuse is held fully accountable under both disciplinary and criminal law.
