Jamie McIntyre’s Lawyers Deny Marina Bay City Fraud Allegations, Call for Independent Audit of Investor Funds

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – The legal team representing Jamie McIntyre and PT Bali Real Estate Investments (BREI) has officially denied allegations of fraud related to the Marina Bay City development project in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), which has been reported to Bali Police by several Australian investors.

Speaking at a press conference in Denpasar on June 4, 2026, attorney Komang Ari Sumartawan emphasized that neither McIntyre nor BREI has been found guilty of any wrongdoing by a court of law.

According to Sumartawan, the allegations currently circulating in public remain claims that have yet to be proven through legal proceedings.

“To date, there has been no court decision declaring our clients guilty of any allegations. Indonesia is a state governed by the rule of law and upholds the principle of the presumption of innocence,” Sumartawan said on Friday (June 5).

The legal team also stated that, as of the press conference, neither McIntyre nor BREI had received an official copy of the police report reportedly submitted to Bali Police, along with supporting documents detailing the allegations against their clients.

Sumartawan argued that the issues surrounding the Marina Bay City project should not be viewed solely as a potential criminal matter. He said the dispute also involves corporate, contractual, licensing, spatial planning, and investor fund management issues that require objective examination and legal clarification.

According to the legal team, during the early stages of the Marina Bay City project, various representations and commitments regarding land status, zoning, permits, and overall project feasibility were presented to their clients.

However, the project later encountered a range of challenges, including changes in spatial planning regulations, land administration issues, coordination among government agencies, and technical licensing processes, all of which contributed to increased costs and delays.

The lawyers further disclosed that, based on company financial records, bank statements, and corporate documents, Marina Bay Investment (MBI) and BREI collectively received approximately USD 3 million in investor funds.

However, they claimed to have obtained information suggesting that the total amount raised from investors may have been significantly higher than the funds ultimately received by the two companies.

“If it is true that a much larger amount of investor funds was raised, then where were those funds allocated and who controlled their receipt?” Sumartawan said.

The legal team therefore called for an independent audit, a comprehensive review of financial transactions, and an investigation involving all parties who participated in raising investor funds for the project.

They also rejected allegations made by McIntyre’s former business partner, Adrian James Campbell, who claimed that investor funds had been used for personal purposes.

According to the lawyers, all funds received by BREI and MBI were used for project-related expenses, including land acquisition, legal documentation, consulting services, permits, construction work, infrastructure development, and payments to third-party contractors involved in Marina Bay City.

They further stated that records in their possession indicate total expenditures exceeded the amount of funds received by the companies.

Responding to claims by one of the complainants, Amanda Walsh, who reportedly invested approximately IDR 1.9 billion, the legal team questioned the path taken by the funds before reaching the project.

They alleged that not all investor funds were transferred directly into BREI’s accounts and suggested that some funds may have remained with a broker identified as Kinara.

“If all of the money had been received by the project company, it would have been used for the project. The issue is that some of the funds appear to have remained elsewhere. We used the funds that actually reached us. Therefore, responsibility should also be examined at the broker level. In fact, our client injected additional personal funds to continue the project,” Sumartawan said.

He added that if the total funds received amounted to approximately AUD 3.5 million, project expenditures had already exceeded AUD 5 million.

Regarding allegations circulating in traditional and social media, the legal team warned that it would pursue legal action against any party found to have spread inaccurate, misleading, or defamatory information that damages their clients’ reputations.

According to Sumartawan, Jamie McIntyre has authorized his lawyers to pursue both criminal and civil proceedings against parties proven to have committed defamation, disseminated false information, or engaged in conduct deemed harmful to his legal interests.

Despite the ongoing dispute, the legal team maintained that McIntyre remains committed to finding solutions for investors and completing the Marina Bay City development.

They said several settlement mechanisms have been proposed to provide legal certainty and protect investor rights.

“Completing the project and safeguarding the interests of investors remain our client’s primary focus at this time,” Sumartawan concluded.
