Portuguese National Detained After Causing Disturbance at Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport

BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – A Portuguese national was detained by authorities after allegedly causing a disturbance in the international departure terminal of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali on Tuesday (August 4, 2026).

A video showing the foreign national’s behavior circulated widely on social media. The incident reportedly disrupted the comfort of other passengers at the airport.

Airport Security (Avsec) officers responded to the incident and secured the individual at the scene. The foreign national reportedly resisted during the process of being taken into custody.

Head of Operations at the Badung Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), I Made Astika Jaya, confirmed that his office was contacted by airport security to assist in handling the incident and arranging medical treatment for the individual.

“Based on a report from airport security regarding a foreign national who was causing a disturbance and disrupting the comfort of other passengers, the individual was secured. We were then contacted to take him to the hospital for treatment,” Astika said on Thursday (August 6).

According to Astika, the Portuguese national was subsequently taken to Prof. Ngoerah Hospital in Denpasar for medical treatment. Badung Satpol PP also coordinated with the Portuguese Consulate regarding the further handling of the case.

“The individual did resist at one point, but we managed to secure him. He is now receiving treatment at Prof. Ngoerah Hospital,” Astika said.

Information circulating on social media suggested that the foreign national may have been experiencing depression and had a history of mental health problems. However, the individual’s medical condition has not been independently confirmed and should be determined through medical examination and official information from the relevant authorities.
