Pool Technician Dies After Suspected Electric Shock at Seminyak Villa

BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – A 46-year-old Indonesian man died after allegedly suffering an electric shock while replacing a circuit breaker at a private villa in Seminyak, Kuta, Badung, on Wednesday (July 8, 2026).

The victim was identified as Samuel Sitompul, a freelance technician from East Siantar District, Pematang Siantar City, North Sumatra. He had been hired to replace and install a Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) for the swimming pool pump at Villa Kasa Artista, located on Jalan Sari Dewi No. 17.

According to witness statements, at approximately 6:30 p.m. local time, housekeeping staff member I Made Desta saw the victim working on the pool pump’s electrical system near the western side of the swimming pool. When offered a cup of coffee, the victim declined, saying he only had one MCB left to install and planned to complete the remaining work the following day.

Moments later, while cutting an electrical cable, the victim suddenly shouted, “Ouch.” Hearing the cry, the witness immediately switched off the electricity by shutting down all MCBs on the main electrical panel and called security officer Valentino Mali Sarani Manehat for assistance.

The two men evacuated the victim to the villa’s pantry terrace. At that time, the victim was still breathing, although he appeared to be gasping for air. The villa management then contacted Bakthi Venanta Clinic to request emergency medical assistance.

Upon arrival, medical personnel examined the victim by checking his pulse, breathing, and pupillary reflexes. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident was subsequently reported to Kuta Police for further investigation.

A forensic identification team from Denpasar Police found injuries consistent with an electric shock on the victim’s left index, middle, and ring fingers. No signs of violence or injuries caused by sharp or blunt objects were found on the body.

Police also recovered several work tools belonging to the victim at the scene, including three pairs of pliers, a screwdriver, a flashlight, a drill, a mobile phone, and a pair of sandals.

Based on witness statements, the victim was not wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) while carrying out the electrical work. He was reportedly barefoot, having left his sandals beside the swimming pool, and was not wearing protective gloves.

The victim’s body was later transported by ambulance to Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar for further examination. Preliminary findings indicate that the victim is believed to have died from an electric shock, while police continue their investigation into the incident.
