BPN Bali Screens Tanah Sengketa Film to Educate the Public and Prevent Land Mafia Practices

BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – The Bali Provincial Office of the National Land Agency (BPN) has turned the feature film Tanah Sengketa (Land Dispute) into an educational tool to raise public awareness about protecting land rights, preventing land disputes, and combating land mafia practices.

The agency organized a special screening of the film at Cinepolis Sidewalk Jimbaran in Badung Regency on Thursday (June 25, 2026). The event was led by the Head of the Bali Provincial BPN Office, Eko Priyanggodo, accompanied by the Head of the Land Dispute Control and Resolution Division, Hardiansyah. The screening was attended by BPN employees as part of the institution’s initiative to promote land administration awareness through the film industry.

Tanah Sengketa premiered nationwide in Indonesian cinemas on June 25, 2026. Directed by Muda Saleh and starring Dara The Virgin and Mita The Virgin, the horror-mystery film tells the story of Yuni, an idealistic university student striving to establish a free learning park in Kampung Degong. Her efforts are challenged by a land ownership dispute, resistance from local residents, hidden secrets from the past, and a series of supernatural events linked to the contested land.

Speaking after the screening, Eko Priyanggodo said films provide an effective medium to reach a broader audience by presenting land-related issues through stories that are engaging, easy to understand, and closely connected to everyday life.

He emphasized that increasing public understanding of proper land administration, safeguarding land assets, and resolving disputes through legal mechanisms is essential to preventing future land disputes and conflicts.

In addition to promoting public education through cinema, the Bali BPN Office revealed that land disputes on the island remain relatively low, accounting for approximately five percent of all land administration services handled by the agency.

Eko explained that land-related cases are classified into three categories: disputes, conflicts, and court cases. Disputes generally involve individuals, legal entities, or government institutions. Conflicts involve larger groups of people and have broader social impacts, while court cases are matters that have proceeded to litigation.

He noted that nearly every Land Office across Bali handles land disputes. However, mediation remains the agency’s primary approach before legal action is considered. If mediation fails because both parties maintain their respective positions, the matter is then resolved through the courts.

“In Bali Province, land dispute cases account for around five percent,” Eko said.

During the event, the agency also urged the public to exercise good faith in every land transaction. Buyers who knowingly purchase land that is already under dispute are considered not to meet the principle of good faith. Conversely, purchasers who act in good faith are entitled to legal protection under applicable laws and regulations.

The public was also encouraged to actively manage and safeguard their land assets to prevent them from being abandoned. Neglected land can create legal problems and increase opportunities for land mafia activities.

Through this film-based educational initiative, the Bali Provincial BPN Office hopes to strengthen public awareness of legal certainty, the protection of land rights, and the importance of preventing land disputes, ultimately reducing the potential for land conflicts across Bali.
