BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR — The Bali Police Narcotics Directorate has uncovered two major drug trafficking cases involving international and domestic networks, with total seized evidence valued at approximately Rp19.8 billion.
The cases were announced by Director of Narcotics Investigation, Senior Commissioner Radiant, during a press conference held at the Bali Police Narcotics Directorate lobby on Tuesday (April 14). The event was also attended by Public Relations Subdivision Head AKBP Rina Isriana Dewi, representatives from the Internal Affairs Division, and Head of Ngurah Rai Customs Office Wawan Dharmawan.
Radiant explained that the first case resulted from a joint operation between the Bali Police and Ngurah Rai Customs, involving the smuggling of more than 2.5 kilograms of cocaine.
The case began on Friday, April 10, 2026, at around 8:00 p.m. local time, when officers became suspicious of a foreign passenger arriving at the International Arrival Terminal on a Polish Airlines flight from Istanbul. An X-ray scan of the passenger’s green suitcase revealed suspicious items concealed within its inner lining.
“Upon inspection, officers discovered eight plastic packages containing white powder, which laboratory tests confirmed as cocaine weighing a net total of 2,544.10 grams,” Radiant said.
The suspect, identified as YK (24), a Kazakh national, admitted he had been instructed by an individual named Igor, whom he met in Poland, to transport the suitcase in exchange for USD 1,000. He also received an advance payment of USD 200, round-trip flight tickets, and accommodation in Canggu for seven nights.
Authorities also seized additional evidence, including a Boreja-brand suitcase, a boarding pass, and two mobile phones. The cocaine is estimated to be worth Rp17.8 billion and is believed to have the potential to prevent approximately 12,720 people from drug abuse.
The second case involved the distribution of 1,284 MDMA (ecstasy) pills in the South Kuta area.
According to Radiant, the case was uncovered following a police report dated April 12, 2026. Officers arrested a suspect identified as AB (34), a resident of Jember, East Java, who acted as a courier.
The arrest took place on Sunday, April 12, at around 8:20 p.m. local time at a nightlife venue in Benoa, following public reports of a drug transaction. Initial searches found three fragments of suspected ecstasy tablets.
Further investigation led officers to the suspect’s rented room in Pemogan, South Denpasar. A search of the premises uncovered 1,284 TMT-logo ecstasy pills weighing approximately 634 grams, hidden above the ceiling.
“The drugs were obtained from an unknown individual under the direction of a person identified only as ‘N,’ who is currently on the wanted list,” Radiant stated.
The seized MDMA is estimated to be worth Rp1.28 billion and is believed to have the potential to save 1,284 lives from drug abuse.
For their actions, suspect YK has been charged under Article 609 paragraph (2) letter a of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Law No. 1 of 2026, carrying penalties of death, life imprisonment, or up to 20 years in prison. Meanwhile, suspect AB is charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, which carries similar penalties.
Radiant emphasized that investigations into both cases are ongoing to dismantle wider drug trafficking networks.
“We are committed to strengthening synergy with related agencies in combating illicit drug trafficking within Bali Police jurisdiction,” he said.
