BALINEWSID.COM, BULELENG — A special committee of the Bali Regional House of Representatives (DPRD Bali) has given Nusa Bay Menjangan a one-month deadline to rectify its licensing and ensure environmental protection, following multiple violations uncovered during a surprise inspection on Tuesday (April 28, 2026).
The inspection, led by committee chairman I Made Supartha, revealed serious issues at the tourism site located within a conservation area. Findings included non-compliance with permits, problems related to Spatial Utilization Activity Conformity (KKPR), and alleged impacts on forest and marine ecosystems.
“From the KKPR aspect, there are problems. From the licensing side, there are also problems. Even the compression of forest and marine areas is problematic. In fact, even areas under one hectare should have obtained provincial permits,” Supartha said on site.
The committee recorded that the total managed area spans approximately 240 hectares. Of that, around 180 hectares are categorized as core zones, about 20 hectares are indicated as abandoned, and an additional 40 hectares will undergo further evaluation in an upcoming hearing.
The committee also highlighted the involvement of multiple business entities and investors operating in the area. A comprehensive review will be conducted, particularly regarding their commitment to environmental protection.
“If their obligations to protect forests and the sea are unclear, they should not carry out activities. However, if there is serious and measurable responsibility, we will examine it further before granting tolerance,” Supartha added.
Responding to the findings, Nusa Bay Menjangan Operations Manager Komang Tri Adnyana apologized for the shortcomings, including incomplete permits under the latest regulations. He stated that the management would immediately coordinate with headquarters to fulfill all requirements.
“We will follow up and report to headquarters to complete all necessary permits. We are also committed to preserving the forest and monitoring habitats in this area,” he said.
The management also expressed support for DPRD Bali’s efforts to safeguard the environment, including the idea of designating Menjangan Island as a spiritual zone.
The committee emphasized that further decisions will be made after evaluating compliance within the one-month deadline, as part of efforts to balance tourism investment with environmental conservation in ecologically sensitive areas like Menjangan.
