BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – The Bali Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP Bali) has dismantled an alleged inter-provincial marijuana trafficking network operating between Aceh and Bali, arresting two suspects and seizing more than 1.4 kilograms of suspected marijuana.
The operation was carried out on Wednesday (July 8) in the Jalan Gunung Soputan area of Denpasar and was led directly by the Head of BNNP Bali, Brig. Gen. Pol. Dr. Putu Putera Sadana, accompanied by the agency’s Head of Eradication Division and enforcement team.
According to the Head of BNNP Bali, the investigation began following intelligence shared by the Directorate of Interdiction under the National Narcotics Agency (BNN RI) and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) for the Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara regions. The agencies had received information regarding a package suspected of containing marijuana being shipped from Aceh to Denpasar.
Acting on the information, the joint team conducted a controlled delivery operation, allowing the package to reach its intended recipient under close surveillance. Shortly after the package was accepted, officers arrested a 48-year-old man identified by his initials, RA, at his residence on Jalan Gunung Soputan.
In the presence of witnesses and members of the public, officers opened the package and discovered 15 packets of suspected marijuana concealed inside coffee bean packaging. The total net weight of the seized marijuana was 1,471.46 grams.
During questioning, RA allegedly admitted that he was acting under the instructions of another man, identified as FY, also known as “Giok,” aged 49, who resides in Tibubeneng, North Kuta, Badung Regency.
Based on the information, investigators immediately expanded the operation and arrested FY at his residence. He allegedly confessed to obtaining the marijuana from an individual known only as “Pak Cik” in Aceh.
“The suspects and all evidence have been taken to the Bali Provincial National Narcotics Agency for further investigation,” Brig. Gen. Putu Putera Sadana said.
BNNP Bali is continuing its investigation to uncover the full extent of the alleged trafficking network and to identify other individuals believed to be involved, including the suspected supplier in Aceh.
The two suspects are being investigated under Indonesia’s Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics. If found guilty, they face severe penalties, including the death sentence, life imprisonment, or a maximum prison term of 20 years. As with all criminal proceedings, the suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final and binding court verdict.
