BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – Founder and Patron of Artha Graha Peduli,Tomy Winata, expressed strong optimism about Bali’s future as a leading tourism and investment destination, while emphasizing the importance of national unity, responsible investment, and sustainable development.
Speaking on the sidelines of activities marking the 36th anniversary of Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel, Winata said Indonesia continues to offer promising opportunities despite global economic uncertainties and external challenges.
“Indonesia remains a good prospect for investors. The world may have its own economic concerns, but Indonesia has its own strategy. The important thing is that Indonesians stay united and do not get influenced by provocations,” he said.
Winata noted that Bali’s economic strength extends far beyond tourism alone. According to him, the island’s development is supported by various sectors, including accommodation, creative industries, culinary businesses, arts and culture, as well as historical and religious tourism.
“Bali is not only about tourism. Accommodation, creative industries, culinary businesses, arts and culture all continue to grow. Bali is also one of the strongest centers of Hindu civilization in the world and is respected internationally,” he said.
His remarks came as Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel prepares a series of promotional roadshows and events leading up to its official anniversary celebration in October. Winata praised the hotel’s management for maintaining its relevance and competitiveness after more than three decades of operation.
He attributed the hotel’s continued success to the support of management, the Yayasan Kartika Eka Paksi (YKEP), and Inkopad, which have enabled ongoing renovations and business development programs.
“Discovery has remained relevant because of strong management and institutional support. Programs continue to run, renovations continue, and preparations for the anniversary celebration are already underway,” he said.
Addressing concerns about the strengthening of the U.S. dollar and its impact on investment, Winata advised investors to remain prudent and avoid excessive financial exposure.
“The key is not to over-invest. Investments must be made according to one’s financial capability and in accordance with government regulations. If we follow those principles, we can move forward confidently,” he said.
Winata also voiced support for the government’s ambition to position Bali as a global investment center, describing the island as an attractive and promising destination for both domestic and international investors.
Regarding challenges arising from rapid tourism growth, including urban and social issues, he called for collective solutions rather than focusing solely on complaints.
“Every development brings challenges. We should work together to solve problems. Businesses can contribute through corporate social responsibility programs and environmental initiatives. Cooperation is the key,” he said.
He added that Bali should remain open to development opportunities that are welcomed by local communities and aligned with Balinese cultural values.
“Anything that benefits Bali, is welcomed by the Balinese people, respects local culture, and can realistically be implemented should continue to move forward,” Winata stated.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Kartika Eka Paksi Foundation (**YKEP), Major General (Ret.) Mochamad Reza Utama, joined the anniversary activities, highlighting the foundation’s continued commitment to supporting the sustainability and development of strategic tourism assets under its management.
The 36th anniversary celebration of Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel is expected to feature a series of promotional programs, roadshows, and special prizes for guests as part of efforts to strengthen Bali’s tourism recovery and long-term competitiveness.
