BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – A violent clash involving foreign nationals at Jade by Todd English Restaurant and Bar on Jalan Pemelisan Agung, Tibubeneng, North Kuta, Badung, has once again drawn public attention to security concerns in Bali’s tourism sector after videos of the incident went viral on social media.
Badung Police Chief Joseph Edward Purba personally led the investigation on Saturday (May 23, 2026), following widespread public reaction to the incident that occurred early Friday morning.
The altercation reportedly began at around 1:40 a.m. local time. Preliminary police findings revealed that a verbal dispute broke out between seven black foreign nationals seated at table L302 and five white foreign nationals seated at table L303. The situation escalated further when three large-built foreign nationals from table D11 approached the scene.
Security personnel at the entertainment venue initially attempted to defuse the confrontation. However, one foreign national from table L302 allegedly threw a glass that struck a guest at table D11 near the temple area, triggering a physical fight among the groups.
“It was allegedly caused by a misunderstanding between visitors and influenced by alcohol consumption,” Joseph Edward Purba stated on Monday (May 25, 2026).
A crime scene investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Unit of Badung Police revealed that the event space measured approximately 20 by 30 meters and contained 41 tables. At the time of the incident, 103 guests occupied 17 tables, while the total number of visitors entering and leaving the venue reached 462 people.
Police concluded that the venue was no longer suitable once the number of visitors exceeded 100 people.
“The room is no longer representative if the number of visitors exceeds 100 people,” the police chief added.
Several foreign nationals sustained injuries during the brawl, while substantial damage was also reported inside the restaurant and bar. Damaged items included 89 rock glasses, 68 shot glasses, 20 tall highball glasses, five short highball glasses, and 15 large carafes.
Investigators have questioned seven witnesses, including security officer Simon Ningotu, Marketing Manager Jeni Ramdania, and Bar Manager of PT Jadi Berawa Utama, I Nyoman Suryana. Police have also secured CCTV footage from the location as evidence.
Authorities confirmed they have received an official report from the venue management and are continuing to investigate the case. Coordination is also underway with Ngurah Rai Immigration Office regarding the immigration status of the foreign nationals involved.
Badung Police emphasized that strict legal action will be taken if criminal elements are found in the incident.
