BALINEWSID.COM, TABANAN – A man identified by the initials KD was killed after allegedly being attacked by a mob following suspicions that he had stolen a fighting cock in Batunya Village, Baturiti District, Tabanan Regency, Bali. Police are investigating the incident, including the possibility that a criminal offense was committed in the alleged mob attack.

The incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. local time on Friday, July 24, 2026. According to police, KD, who was from Singaraja, Buleleng, was allegedly caught while attempting to take away a fighting cock belonging to a local resident identified as I Wayan Adi Suteja.

The alleged theft reportedly triggered anger among residents amid concerns over a series of fighting-cock thefts that had allegedly been occurring in the area. The incident subsequently escalated into alleged vigilante violence, resulting in KD’s death at the scene.

When officers from the Baturiti Police arrived at around 2 a.m., the victim had already died. Police also found a motorcycle allegedly used by KD that had been burned.

Investigators collected several pieces of evidence from the scene, including a fighting cock, a machete, and a bag containing pliers, a slingshot, stones, and cash. The Tabanan Police Criminal Investigation Unit’s Inafis team then conducted a crime scene examination and identification process before evacuating the body to Semara Ratih General Hospital in Tabanan.

The victim’s body was handed over to his family on Friday afternoon.

Tabanan Police Public Relations Section Head First Inspector Ni Luh Putu Wiwik Endrayani said investigators were still questioning a number of witnesses to establish a complete chronology of the incident. Police are also investigating who may have been involved in the alleged mob attack.

The case serves as a reminder that suspected criminal offenses must be handled through the legal process. Anyone suspected of committing theft is entitled to undergo investigation, prosecution, and trial in accordance with applicable law, rather than becoming the target of mob violence.

As of now, police have not announced any suspects in the alleged mob attack that resulted in KD’s death. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full facts surrounding the incident.
