BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR — A 38-year-old United States national, identified by the initials IAH, was deported from Bali on Wednesday (September 23, 2026), after serving a nine-year and four-month prison sentence at Bangli Prison for a drug-related offense.
The deportation was carried out by the Intelligence and Immigration Enforcement Division of the Denpasar Class I Immigration Office through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
IAH had been serving a prison sentence under Article 112 paragraph (2) and Article 111 paragraph (1) of Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics.
After completing his prison sentence, IAH was subjected to an immigration administrative action in the form of deportation under Article 75 paragraph (1) of Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration.
The provision authorizes immigration officers to impose administrative immigration measures against foreign nationals who engage in activities deemed dangerous, are suspected of posing a threat to public security and order, or fail to comply with Indonesian laws and regulations.
The deportation process began at 11:45 p.m. local time on Wednesday and was carried out in accordance with established procedures.
IAH was flown out of Bali on Korean Air flights KE432 and KE17, traveling from Denpasar to Seoul and then to Los Angeles.
The entire deportation process was reported to have proceeded safely, orderly, and smoothly.
Denpasar Immigration Office Head R. Haryo Sakti praised the performance of the Intelligence and Immigration Enforcement Division in carrying out the deportation.
“The Denpasar Immigration Office will continue to enforce immigration laws firmly, proportionately, and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Every foreign national is required to respect the laws in force while staying in Indonesia,” Haryo said.
He said immigration law enforcement was part of the agency’s commitment to the public by providing both immigration services and law enforcement aimed at ensuring public safety and legal certainty.
Meanwhile, Ramdhani, head of the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, said immigration authorities would continue to enforce regulations against foreign nationals found to have violated Indonesian immigration laws.
“Immigration law enforcement will continue to be carried out professionally and in accordance with procedures against every foreign national proven to have committed an immigration violation,” Ramdhani said.
He also urged members of the public to actively report suspected immigration violations to the authorities.
“This is a concrete manifestation of Immigration for the People, in which the presence and activities of foreign nationals remain subject to monitoring to help maintain security and public order,” he said.
