BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR — An Indonesian Army officer holding the rank of Major was detained during a public order enforcement operation at a nightclub on Jalan Teuku Umar in Denpasar on Saturday, September 19, 2026. The Udayana Regional Military Command (Kodam IX/Udayana) said the officer is undergoing further questioning at the Denpasar Military Police Detachment (Denpom IX/3 Denpasar).
The detention took place during an operation conducted by a joint team involving the Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) and Denpom IX/3 Denpasar.
Udayana Military Command spokesperson Colonel Inf. Amrizal Nasution confirmed that an Army Major had been found at the venue and taken into custody for further examination.
“It is true that an Indonesian Army member holding the rank of Major was found at the location. The officer is currently undergoing an additional period of detention and further questioning at Denpom IX/3 Denpasar to establish the facts surrounding his presence at the venue,” Amrizal said.
He explained that the operation was carried out by a Bareskrim Polri team after prior coordination with Denpom IX/3 Denpasar. The coordination was intended to prepare for the possibility of military personnel being found at the location during the operation.
During the operation, the joint team discovered the Army officer at the nightclub. Military police personnel subsequently took him into custody for further examination in accordance with applicable procedures.
Amrizal said Kodam IX/Udayana respected the ongoing investigation and would leave the handling of the case to the relevant authorities in accordance with the law. He also urged the public not to speculate before the examination had been completed and all relevant facts established.
“Fundamentally, Kodam IX/Udayana is committed to upholding the law and maintaining discipline within the Indonesian Army. Every soldier is required to comply with regulations and uphold the institution’s honor. There will be no tolerance for violations proven to have been committed by military personnel,” he said.
According to Amrizal, any disciplinary or legal action against the officer would depend on the findings of the investigation and the nature of any violation established. The case would be handled through the appropriate legal and disciplinary mechanisms.
He reiterated that the military would not protect personnel found to have committed violations. However, he emphasized that the investigation must respect the presumption of innocence and that any action must be based on verifiable findings.
As of the time of writing, the examination of the officer remains ongoing. Kodam IX/Udayana said further action would be taken if the investigation established violations of the law, military discipline, or other regulations applicable to Indonesian Army personnel.
