Bali Police Chief Calls for Religious Tolerance and Stronger Cooperation During Visit to Jagatnatha Temple

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR — Bali Police Chief Inspector General Pasma Royce has called on the public to strengthen religious tolerance and cooperation among community groups to maintain security and public order across the island. He made the appeal during a community security outreach visit to Jagatnatha Temple in Denpasar on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

Pasma was accompanied by Bali Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General I Made Astawa and several senior officials from the Bali Regional Police. They were welcomed by temple caretakers, traditional community leaders, and representatives of relevant institutions.

The visit began with a tirta suci blessing ritual, a Hindu religious tradition performed to pray for safety, peace, and prosperity for the people of Bali.

Pasma thanked the temple community for welcoming him and said the visit also served as an opportunity to introduce himself as the newly appointed Bali police chief.

“On this occasion, I would like to thank everyone for welcoming us warmly. Please allow us to introduce ourselves as the new Bali police chief,” Pasma said.

He explained that the community outreach initiative was intended to strengthen communication between the police and the public, provide opportunities to hear residents’ concerns directly, and identify solutions to security-related issues.

“Our presence here is a concrete expression of the National Police Chief’s ‘Police Together with the Community’ program. We aim to stay close to the public, listen directly to their feedback, and seek solutions to the problems they face,” he said.

Pasma also highlighted the importance of Tri Hita Karana, a Balinese philosophical principle emphasizing harmony between humans and God, among people, and between humans and the natural environment. He said these values could serve as a foundation for sustainable security and public order.

The Bali police chief urged residents to continue protecting religious tolerance, which remains an important part of the island’s social life. He stressed that maintaining security and public order was a shared responsibility requiring the involvement of the wider community.

“Strong cooperation among the National Police, the Indonesian Military (TNI), local government, traditional security officers known as pecalang, and religious leaders is essential to preserving harmony and ensuring comfort across the Island of the Gods,” he said.

Ahead of upcoming regional events, Pasma urged residents to remain alert to potential security threats, avoid being provoked by misleading information or inflammatory situations, and promptly contact the police if they notice suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.

The visit to Jagatnatha Temple concluded with a group photograph involving Pasma and worshippers. The event proceeded safely and orderly in a cordial atmosphere.
