BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – A fire destroyed a semi-permanent workers’ barracks at a construction project on Jalan Pantai Suluban, Pecatu Village, South Kuta District, Badung Regency, on Wednesday (July 8, 2026). No casualties were reported, although property losses are estimated at approximately Rp50 million.
The fire was first detected at around 10:15 a.m. local time while construction workers were carrying out their daily activities at the project site.
According to Sopian, the project’s chief foreman, one of the workers noticed smoke rising from the barracks and immediately alerted others. The workers rushed to the building in an attempt to save valuable belongings and extinguish the flames before contacting the nearest fire department.
“One of the workers shouted after seeing smoke coming from the barracks. We immediately tried to rescue valuable items and put out the fire before calling firefighters,” Sopian said.
Sri, the person in charge of the workers’ barracks, said she received a phone call from the chief foreman at around 10:20 a.m. while she was away having a meal. Upon returning to the site, she found the building already engulfed in flames as workers struggled to contain the fire until firefighters arrived.
Firefighters reached the scene at approximately 10:40 a.m., deploying five fire engines, including two units from the Badung Fire Department, one unit from ITDC, one unit from Majapahit, and one unit from Kunti. The fire was successfully extinguished, followed by cooling operations to prevent reignition.
The blaze completely destroyed the semi-permanent barracks, which covered an area of approximately two ares. Workers’ personal belongings, including clothing, electronic equipment, construction tools, and identification cards, were also burned.
Authorities estimated the total financial loss at around Rp50 million.
No injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident.
Following the fire, police advised the project management to file an official report with the South Kuta Police. However, the management stated that it would first conduct an internal investigation before determining further action. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
