BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – Forensic identification has become the primary focus of police as they investigate the discovery of a severed human head at Ketewel Beach, Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency, Bali, on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
A joint team from Gianyar Police and Bali Regional Police is conducting an intensive investigation, including collecting evidence and carrying out forensic examinations on body parts found at the Wos River estuary in Banjar Keden, Ketewel Village.
The remains were discovered at approximately 10:00 a.m. local time. The severed head was first found by a resident who was jogging along a track near Ketewel Beach.
Head of Public Relations for Gianyar Police, Ipda I Gusti Ngurah Suardita, confirmed the incident.
“With permission from the Gianyar Police Chief, we inform that the severed head was found on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at around 10:00 a.m. WITA,” Suardita said on Thursday.
He explained that the head was initially discovered by a local resident engaged in activities along the beachside jogging track. The resident immediately reported the finding to Sukawati Police.
Upon receiving the report, officers on duty coordinated with the forensic identification team (Inafis) from Gianyar Police and Bali Regional Police to process the scene. Authorities conducted a thorough crime scene investigation and combed the surrounding coastal area.
“Afterward, the team carried out a crime scene investigation and swept the area around Ketewel Beach,” he added.
During the search, the joint team discovered additional body parts, including the chest, shoulders, arms, and thighs. All recovered remains were evacuated for further identification.
The body parts have been transported to RSUP Prof. Ngoerah in Sanglah, Denpasar, for forensic examination.
“At this time, the identity of the victim is still under investigation. The Bali Regional Police and Gianyar Police are continuing the investigative process,” Suardita stated.
Authorities are also examining possible motives and the cause of death. Police have urged members of the public who may have missing family members to report to the nearest police station to assist in the identification process.
The investigation remains ongoing.
