Thousands of Inmates in Bali Proposed for Nyepi and Eid Remission

Head of the Bali Corrections Office, Decky Nurmansyah, said the figures are still proposals submitted to the central government and are pending official approval through a decree.

“For 2026, we have proposed nearly over 1,000 inmates to receive Nyepi remission,” he said.

In addition, around 1,600 inmates have been proposed to receive special remission for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri.

“Regarding Eid remission, I can share that there are more than 1,600 inmates proposed. We ask for your prayers so the process runs smoothly and the official decrees can be issued soon for our brothers and sisters celebrating both Nyepi and Eid,” Decky added.

He emphasized that the final number of recipients cannot yet be confirmed as the process is still undergoing administrative stages at the central level.

“Ethically, we cannot disclose the exact figures before the official decree is issued. Once it is finalized, we will inform the media,” he said.

Decky explained that remission is granted as a form of appreciation for inmates who demonstrate good behavior and positive progress during their incarceration.

“Remission is a reward for successful rehabilitation. However, it can be revoked if violations occur during the proposal process up to the time it is granted,” he noted.

In some cases, the remission may directly lead to the completion of an inmate’s sentence, allowing them to be released immediately or qualify for parole.

Decky also reminded inmates to maintain good conduct until the official decision is issued, as any violations before the decree could result in the cancellation of the remission.

“If a remission has been proposed but a violation occurs before the decree is issued, it may be canceled. Therefore, we hope all inmates remain consistent in demonstrating good behavior,” he said.
