BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – Hundreds of garbage truck drivers and field workers around the Suwung Final Disposal Site (TPA Suwung) in Denpasar received a pleasant surprise ahead of the breaking of the fast during Ramadan 1447 Hijri on Wednesday (March 11, 2026).
The workers were given free food packages as part of a social initiative titled “IWO Bali Berbagi Ramadan”, organized by the Bali chapter of the Indonesian Online Journalists Association (IWO Bali). The program was held in collaboration with the Artha Graha Peduli (AGP) group, including Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel, Discovery Mall Bali, and LV8 Resort Hotel.
A total of 300 iftar meal packages were distributed during the event, which was also supported by the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration Bali and the Regional Office of the National Land Agency (BPN) Bali.

Based on observations at the site, dozens of volunteers consisting of journalists and representatives from sponsoring organizations gathered at the three-way intersection of By Pass Ngurah Rai Road, the access route to the Serangan area in South Denpasar, starting at 4:30 p.m. local time.
The main recipients were sanitation workers and garbage truck drivers who continue their duties transporting waste while fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.
Each package was specially prepared to help restore energy after a day of fasting, containing appetizers, rice, dates, and mineral water.
Chairwoman of IWO Bali, Tri Widiyanti, said the initiative is a routine program that continues to expand its outreach each year. She expressed appreciation for the strong cross-institution collaboration supporting this year’s event.
“We hope what we provide today will be beneficial, especially for garbage truck drivers. For us, their dedication and hard work in keeping the city clean are extremely valuable,” said the journalist from Metrobali.co.id.
Support from the private sector also played a crucial role in making the activity possible. Luis Daniel Garcia, General Manager of Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel, said Ramadan is the right moment to strengthen compassion and empathy among communities.
“We are honored to support this initiative. Hopefully, it can bring encouragement and warmth to those who work tirelessly during the holy month,” Luis said.
Similarly, Bimo Prihantoro, General Manager of Discovery Mall Bali, emphasized that shopping centers should not only function as commercial spaces but also as community hubs that spread kindness.
Meanwhile, James Costa, General Manager of LV8 Resort Hotel, said the assistance was intended as moral support for sanitation workers.
“We hope this activity can give extra attention and encouragement to environmental heroes who remain dedicated to their duties,” he stated.
AGP Bali Coordinator Steve Sumolang expressed hope that the collaboration would continue and serve as a strong foundation for future social initiatives.
“This program not only provides direct benefits in the field but also strengthens strategic collaboration between social institutions, the private sector, and media organizations in Bali,” he said.
Head of Intelligence and Enforcement at Bali Immigration, Ngurah Mas Wijaya Kusuma, also praised the initiative led by IWO Bali, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
“This is a very positive and beneficial activity. It also helps strengthen friendship and solidarity among us,” he concluded.
