BNEWS.ID  – The late afternoon atmosphere at Tanah Lot Tourist Attraction (DTW) came alive on Thursday (Oct 24) with the rhythmic sounds of okokan and tektekan,  two traditional cultural performances native to Tabanan. The open rehearsal drew the attention of tourists who were enjoying the stunning sunset at the island’s iconic coastal temple.

According to Tanah Lot DTW Operations Manager I Wayan Sudiana, the open rehearsal was intentionally held as an additional attraction to entertain visitors before sunset.

“We present this open rehearsal as an extra cultural attraction before sunset. Many visitors showed great enthusiasm, and some even joined in by playing kulkul (traditional wooden bell) and gamelan instruments,” said Sudiana.

He added that the performance also serves as a strategy to maintain tourist visits during the low season while offering a more memorable cultural experience. By showcasing live cultural activities on-site, the management aims to highlight Bali’s rich local traditions amidst Tanah Lot’s breathtaking natural scenery.

In addition to cultural attractions, Tanah Lot management is currently preparing for Karya Wrespati Kalpa, a major temple ceremony coinciding with the Pujawali at Pura Luhur Tanah Lot on December 3, 2025. Preparations include temple area arrangements, environmental cleaning, and improving facilities for worshippers expected to visit and pray during the ceremony.

Interestingly, the ngayah (voluntary communal work) activities leading up to the Pujawali have also become a fascinating spectacle for tourists. Many visitors were seen enthusiastically observing the local community’s collective spirit as they prepared for the ceremony.

Sudiana emphasized that such traditions align with Tanah Lot’s vision of promoting cultural tourism, showcasing not only the temple’s scenic beauty and iconic sunsets but also its deep cultural and spiritual significance as a living heritage of Bali. (*)
