Bali Prosecutors Open Possibility of New Suspects in BRI Kreneng Fictitious Loan Corruption Case

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – The Bali High Prosecutor’s Office has indicated that additional suspects may be named in the ongoing investigation into the alleged corruption involving fictitious People’s Business Credit (KUR) and Rural People’s Credit (KUPRA) loans at BRI Kreneng Unit in Denpasar. Investigators are continuing to examine the case, which has already resulted in seven individuals being named as suspects.

Head of the Bali High Prosecutor’s Office, Setiawan Budi Cahyono, said the investigation remains ongoing and that authorities have not ruled out the involvement of other parties.

“We will review the results of further examinations. There is a possibility, and we are not ruling it out,” Setiawan told reporters at Lapangan Niti Mandala Renon on Monday (June 1, 2026).

He stated that the seven suspects identified so far include individuals believed to have acted as key figures behind the alleged fictitious loan scheme. Prosecutors are continuing to develop the case to determine whether additional parties were involved.

Setiawan also said investigators are examining whether weaknesses in the bank’s internal supervision system may have allowed the alleged corruption to continue for several years.

“That is also a possibility. We will further investigate how BRI’s supervision mechanisms operated so that this corruption could occur,” he said.

The Bali High Prosecutor’s Office previously named seven suspects in the alleged corruption case involving the distribution of KUR and KUPRA loans on May 18, 2026. The suspects are identified by the initials AANSP and APMU, both BRI loan officers or marketing staff, as well as IMS, IKW, AS, NWLN, and NWDL, who allegedly acted as brokers.

According to investigators, the suspects allegedly manipulated loan applications by using customers’ identities to obtain KUR and KUPRA funds fraudulently.

In one scheme, suspect AANSP allegedly instructed brokers to recruit customers to apply for loans. Once the loans were disbursed, the funds were reportedly shared among the suspects and the customers based on prior agreements.

To meet loan eligibility requirements, the suspects are also believed to have falsified business information, making customers appear qualified to receive KUR and KUPRA financing.

Meanwhile, suspect APMU allegedly persuaded several customers to apply for loans whose proceeds were later used for personal purposes. Investigators believe APMU enlisted the assistance of other suspects to fabricate supporting business documents.

The alleged corruption scheme is believed to have operated between 2022 and 2025, causing estimated state losses of approximately Rp8.93 billion.

The Bali High Prosecutor’s Office has pledged to continue the investigation to identify all parties involved and to determine whether deficiencies in internal oversight contributed to the fictitious loan scheme.
