BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – New details have emerged in the investigation into the shooting at The Shady Pig nightclub on Jalan Pantai Berawa, Canggu, North Kuta, Badung. Police have confirmed that the suspect, identified by the initials H.S.H., tested positive for narcotics, while the firearm used in the shooting was legally owned but is suspected of having been illegally modified.

During a press conference on Monday (July 20, 2026), Badung Police Chief AKBP Joseph Edward Purba announced that the suspect’s urine test returned positive for THC, MDMA, and amphetamine.

“The suspect has undergone a urine test, and the results were positive for THC, MDMA, and amphetamine,” Joseph said.

Despite the positive drug test, police stated that H.S.H. is in good health and remains in custody while the legal process continues.

The case has drawn greater public attention after investigators confirmed that the Glock pistol used in the shooting was legally registered under the suspect’s name.

Head of the Badung Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim), AKP Azarul Ahmad, said the firearm had been lawfully obtained and licensed since 2021.

“Based on our investigation, the firearm was legally acquired. The ownership documents and permit are complete, and the suspect was authorized to possess it,” Azarul explained.

However, investigators discovered that the weapon did not fully comply with the specifications stated in its official permit. According to police, the licensed firearm was registered with a .32-caliber barrel, but the pistol seized after the incident was fitted with a 9 mm barrel.

“Because we found that the firearm’s barrel does not match the specifications listed in the ownership permit—specifically, it was equipped with a 9 mm barrel instead of the licensed .32 caliber—we are continuing our investigation,” Azarul said.

The shooting occurred at approximately 2:50 a.m. local time on Friday, July 17, 2026, inside The Shady Pig nightclub.

Police said the suspect, who was allegedly intoxicated, became involved in an argument with other patrons. When security personnel attempted to intervene, H.S.H. allegedly drew a pistol from his waistband and fired a single shot.

The bullet struck security guard I.M.Y.M. in the left thigh before passing through and hitting Moroccan national E.A. in the knee. Another witness sustained minor injuries after being struck by broken glass during the altercation.

Following the shooting, H.S.H. left Bali for Jakarta on Friday afternoon and was allegedly attempting to flee to Kuala Lumpur via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

Through a joint operation involving the Badung Police Criminal Investigation Unit, the Bali Police Criminal Investigation Directorate, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigation Directorate, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, and Soekarno-Hatta Immigration Office, the suspect was arrested in less than 24 hours before he could leave Indonesia.

Investigators also recovered the firearm after discovering that the suspect had taken it from Bali to Jakarta and stored it at his residence.

Evidence seized includes one Glock pistol, several magazines, 12 rounds of ammunition, a bullet projectile, a firearm holster, and CCTV recordings from the scene.

H.S.H. has been charged under Article 306 of Indonesia’s Criminal Code (Law No. 1 of 2023) concerning the unlawful possession or use of firearms, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years’ imprisonment, as well as Article 466 paragraph (2) concerning aggravated assault causing serious injury, punishable by up to five years in prison.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing, including efforts to determine the origin of the unauthorized 9 mm barrel and whether additional violations related to the firearm’s modification and use were committed.
