BALINEWSID.COM, JAKARTA – The death toll from the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has risen to 47, according to the latest data released by Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

Joint response teams are continuing rapid assessments, evacuations and medical treatment for injured victims, while authorities assess damage across affected areas.

Based on preliminary data released by BNPB on Saturday (August 15, 2026) at 6:48 p.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB), the 47 fatalities were recorded across six regencies.

The deaths were reported in Manggarai Regency, with 24 victims; East Manggarai, 17; Sikka, three; West Manggarai, one; Ngada, one; and Ende, one.

“Besides these fatalities, personnel are evacuating and providing medical treatment to injured victims,” said Berton SP Panjaitan, Acting Head of BNPB’s Data, Information and Disaster Communication Center, in a written statement issued Saturday.

The earthquake also caused significant damage to residential buildings and public facilities.

As of 5 p.m. WIB on Saturday, BNPB recorded 157 houses heavily damaged, 41 moderately damaged and 148 lightly damaged.

Damage was also reported at public facilities, including 87 educational facilities, 18 health facilities, five places of worship and six government offices, along with several other public facilities.

Authorities are continuing to collect and verify data to establish the full extent of casualties and damage in the affected areas.

In response to the disaster, BNPB has mobilized food and non-food assistance for affected communities. Some of the supplies are being distributed through a logistics warehouse in East Flores Regency, NTT.

From Jakarta, additional assistance is being transported through the Indonesian Air Force Base Operations facility at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base.

In total, BNPB has prepared 50,000 aid packages weighing approximately 275 tons.

As of Saturday evening, 10,500 packages had arrived at the Halim Perdanakusuma base. The assistance was provided by President Prabowo Subianto.

The earthquake was also felt by residents in Bima Regency and Bima City in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), as well as in the Selayar Islands Regency in South Sulawesi.

Conditions in Bima Regency and Bima City were generally reported to be stable. The local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) continued to conduct field assessments and verify conditions following the tremors.

In the Selayar Islands, the local BPBD established evacuation posts at three locations, covering Pasimarannu, Pasilambena and Takabonerate districts.

BNPB, local governments and joint response teams are continuing emergency operations, including casualty assessments, damage verification and the distribution of aid to communities affected by the earthquake.
