Bawaslu Bali Highlights Police Early Warning System to Safeguard Political Stability

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – The Bali Provincial Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu Bali) has reaffirmed the importance of strengthening its partnership with the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to maintain political stability and public security across the island.

The statement was delivered by Bawaslu Bali Chairman I Putu Agus Tirta Suguna after attending the 80th Bhayangkara Day ceremony hosted by the Bali Regional Police (Polda Bali) at Niti Mandala Renon Square, Denpasar, on Wednesday (July 1, 2026).

According to Suguna, future election oversight will require a more responsive early warning system to detect and mitigate potential social tensions before they escalate into wider conflicts. He described the police as a key institution in preserving democratic order and ensuring a peaceful political climate in Bali.

“On behalf of Bawaslu Bali, we congratulate the Indonesian National Police, particularly Polda Bali, on the 80th Bhayangkara Day. We see the police not only as our institutional partner but also as a pillar that ensures democracy in Bali is upheld through the rule of law, security, and justice,” Suguna said.

He emphasized that stronger collaboration between Bawaslu and the police is essential in monitoring the remaining stages of the electoral process as well as addressing evolving local political dynamics.

Suguna also highlighted the strategic role of the Integrated Law Enforcement Center (Gakkumdu), which brings together Bawaslu, the Police, and the Prosecutor’s Office in handling election-related criminal offenses. He said a shared understanding and swift coordination among the three institutions are crucial to creating a deterrent effect against electoral violations.

“The synergy within Gakkumdu must continue to be strengthened so that every alleged election crime can be handled quickly, professionally, and in accordance with the law,” he stated.

He further noted that Bali’s political vulnerabilities are unique because they are closely intertwined with local customs, traditions, and cultural values. Therefore, he praised Polda Bali’s human-centered approach, particularly the role of community police officers (Bhabinkamtibmas), who work closely with village-level election supervisors to maintain social harmony.

As political activities increasingly shift into the digital sphere, Bawaslu Bali also underscored the importance of combating online threats, including disinformation, black campaigns, hate speech, and misinformation that could trigger polarization within society.

Suguna called for closer cooperation between Bawaslu and Polda Bali’s Cyber Team to monitor and address digital violations throughout political and electoral processes.

“A healthy democracy is measured not only by what happens at polling stations but also by how clean our digital and social spaces remain from intimidation and information manipulation. This is where cyber collaboration and law enforcement become indispensable,” he said.

Suguna also expressed hope that the 80th Bhayangkara Day celebration would reinforce the National Police’s commitment to professionalism and political neutrality. According to him, the neutrality of law enforcement agencies is a fundamental prerequisite for strengthening public trust in Indonesia’s democratic process and election outcomes.

The Bhayangkara Day ceremony was attended by Bali Police Chief, members of the Provincial Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), religious and traditional leaders, as well as representatives from various community organizations. The event also featured a parade showcasing police personnel and tactical equipment, symbolizing the force’s readiness to safeguard public security, tourism, and political stability across Bali.
