BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – Ngurah Rai Immigration Office has deported an Italian national identified as GI (24) after a video of him resisting traffic police officers in Denpasar went viral on social media.
GI was sent back to Italy through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, aboard Qatar Airways flight QR963 bound for Doha.
The deportation followed a physical altercation involving GI and officers from the Denpasar Police Traffic Unit in North Denpasar. Footage of the incident circulated widely on TikTok and Instagram on April 23, prompting a swift response from police and immigration authorities.
According to immigration records, GI last entered Indonesia on April 8, 2026, using a Visit Visa through Ngurah Rai International Airport. At the time of the incident, he still held a valid Visit Stay Permit until June 7, 2026.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 22, at around 1:00 p.m. local time on Jalan Gunung Agung, Pemecutan Kaja, North Denpasar. Police stopped GI for riding a motorcycle with his girlfriend without wearing helmets. However, he allegedly refused to comply and physically resisted officers, pushing one policeman to the ground.
A local resident recorded the altercation, and the video quickly spread online the following day.
In response, Denpasar Police deployed a joint team from the Criminal Investigation Unit and Intelligence Unit in coordination with Ngurah Rai Immigration Office. GI was apprehended on Wednesday morning, April 23, at around 11:00 a.m. near the intersection of Jalan Gunung Agung and Jalan Mahendradatta in Denpasar.
Later that evening, at 7:40 p.m., he was formally handed over by Denpasar Police to immigration authorities for further processing.
Head of Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bugie Kurniawan, said the deportation showed that authorities would not tolerate legal violations committed by foreign nationals.
He added that strong coordination between immigration officials and Denpasar Police enabled the case to be handled quickly and effectively.
During questioning, GI reportedly admitted to all of his actions. Authorities concluded that he violated Article 75 Paragraph (1) of Indonesia’s Immigration Law No. 6 of 2011 for endangering public order and failing to respect Indonesian laws.
As a result, GI was subjected to administrative immigration sanctions in the form of deportation and has been proposed for inclusion on Indonesia’s blacklist.
Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, Felucia Sengky Ratna, stressed that Bali’s status as a world-class tourist destination does not give foreigners freedom to break the law.
She said there would be no compromise for anyone who violates regulations and disturbs public order in Indonesia.
