BNEWSID – Indonesia’s tourism industry has opened 2026 with a strong international achievement, securing dozens of global awards that underline the country’s growing reputation as a world-class travel destination.

Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said the achievement reflects international recognition of Indonesia’s destination quality, service standards, and its commitment to balancing tourism development with cultural preservation and environmental sustainability.

“These awards are not only a source of pride, but also a major responsibility for us to continuously improve tourism services and ensure that the benefits are felt widely by local communities,” Widiyanti said in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday (January 19, 2026).

Throughout January 2026, Indonesia’s tourism sector recorded awards in 32 categories from 25 international organizations and institutions. Prestigious global names such as TripAdvisor, Forbes, Condé Nast Traveler, BBC, Rough Guides, and Travel + Leisure were among those recognizing Indonesian destinations and accommodations.

The accolades were given to a range of leading destinations, including Bali, Sumba, Labuan Bajo, and Raja Ampat. In addition, several Indonesian hotels and resorts were listed among the world’s best, highlighting significant improvements in service quality and the overall travel experience that now competes at a global level.

One of the most notable achievements was earned by Bali, which was named the World’s Best Destination 2026 as well as Asia’s Best Destination at the Travelers’ Choice Awards 2026 by TripAdvisor. The recognition further cements Bali’s status as a global tourism icon that continues to attract international travelers.

The series of achievements is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s tourism image worldwide, attract higher-quality visitors, and generate sustainable positive impacts on the economy, society, and the environment across various tourism regions in the country. (*)
