BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – Twelfth-grade students of SMK Saraswati 1 Denpasar took part in a digital English proficiency test using the Headway Test application on Friday (March 13, 2026). The program aims to strengthen students’ English skills before they enter the workforce or continue their studies at university.
The test was conducted at the school, where students used their own mobile phones under the supervision of teachers. Participants completed a series of questions designed to measure various aspects of English proficiency, including listening comprehension, reading skills, grammar, tenses, and text analysis.

The school stated that using a digital application such as Headway Test provides a new learning experience for students. In addition to being practical, the system is able to deliver faster and more measurable evaluation results.
Test coordinator Ni Ketut Seri said the school uses the application to assess how well students have mastered English and to prepare them for future challenges.
“Through this application-based test, we want to measure students’ English proficiency and encourage them to be better prepared for both higher education and the job market,” she said after supervising the test on Friday morning.
She added that the activity is held annually for Grade XII students as part of the school’s collaboration with Headway Test to evaluate students’ language skills. The school hopes the program will help students apply their English abilities in both professional and academic settings.
“With this program and cooperation with Headway Test, we are confident that graduates of SMK Saraswati 1 Denpasar will be absorbed in various job sectors. We remain optimistic that our students’ competence will continue to improve in the coming years,” she said.
She also invited junior high school students, especially ninth graders who are about to graduate, to consider enrolling at the school.
“We hope the Headway Test program can continue to be improved. We also thank Headway Test for helping us evaluate our students’ English proficiency. Besides English, our students are also equipped with Japanese language skills, so by choosing SMK Saraswati 1 Denpasar they will gain various competencies,” she added.
A total of 49 twelfth-grade students participated in the test and completed it on time. Many students showed enthusiasm throughout the session and said the Headway Test method was more engaging than conventional testing methods.
One of the participants, Calvin Marvellous Santoso, said the test felt more relevant compared to government-provided exams. He plans to use the English proficiency certificate to apply for jobs abroad.
“The questions are more complex and challenging. I plan to use this certificate to seek employment overseas,” Calvin said.
Meanwhile, the principal of SMK Saraswati 1 Denpasar, G. A. Hendrastuti, explained that the school chose the Headway Test platform because it is easy to use, practical, and capable of delivering real-time results.
According to her, the school has a responsibility to equip students with English proficiency certificates as preparation for entering the workforce.
Besides serving as an evaluation tool, the program is also part of the school’s effort to support digital transformation in education. By utilizing technology, the learning process and assessment of students’ abilities are expected to become more effective and efficient.
In the future, the school also plans to adopt other digital learning platforms to enrich teaching methods and improve students’ competencies, particularly in English, which is considered a crucial skill in today’s global era.
“Our commitment is to equip students with competency certificates that can support their job applications. All students receive certificates, and that is something we have consistently implemented,” Hendrastuti said.
She added that, in addition to English proficiency, students are also assessed in various other competencies, including hospitality knowledge, Japanese language skills, public speaking, vocational expertise according to their major, and personality development.
“We hope this will become a strong foundation for them, and that our students can secure jobs or continue their studies at universities in line with their aspirations,” she concluded.
