The meeting was held to ensure that the two major religious observances, which are scheduled close together this year, can be conducted peacefully and harmoniously across the island.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Koster said all religious councils and community leaders agreed to work together to maintain a respectful and conducive atmosphere during both celebrations.
“We discussed how the observance of Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr can take place solemnly, comfortably, safely, and in a conducive environment. All religious assemblies and communities share the same commitment,” Koster said.
The governor emphasized that maintaining tolerance and harmony among religious communities is essential, particularly as the two important religious holidays fall within a short time span.
“The agreement is to ensure everything runs well, with mutual respect, tolerance, and harmony among religious communities,” said the governor, who hails from Sembiran Village in Buleleng Regency.
Koster added that the Bali Provincial Government is still awaiting the official announcement from the central government regarding the exact date of Eid al-Fitr.
“The official decision will be determined through the isbat session. We will wait for that announcement, as there has been no final decision yet,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Bali chapter of the Parisada Hindu Dharma Indonesia (PHDI), I Nyoman Kenak, said all participants in the meeting expressed hope that the Nyepi and Eid celebrations in Bali would proceed peacefully and in a spirit of tolerance.
“We all hope the Nyepi observance will take place peacefully and serenely,” Kenak said.
He added that PHDI emphasized the importance of following the central government’s regulations through the Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) of Three Ministers, which governs national holidays and collective leave.
“Generally, we conveyed that the observance of Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr must follow the SKB of the three ministers, where Eid is estimated to fall on March 21–22, while Nyepi will be observed on March 19,” he stated.
