BNEWSID – Jatiluwih Village in Tabanan has once again brought pride to Bali and Indonesia on the global stage. At the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories 2025 held in Montpellier, France, on September 30, 2025, Jatiluwih was recognized as one of the world’s best sustainable destinations. This year, Jatiluwih stood out as the only representative from Indonesia to make it onto the prestigious list.

Subak Heritage Inspires the World

Amid fierce competition with more than 600 destinations from 60 countries, Jatiluwih captivated the judges with its story titled “Green Miracle in a Cultural Heritage Living Museum.” The narrative highlighted how the traditional Subak irrigation system—acknowledged by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage—has successfully blended with modern tourism without losing its spiritual and social values.

The Green Destinations selection process is known for its strict standards, covering environmental sustainability, community well-being, cultural preservation, and tourism governance. Jatiluwih proved that harmony between nature, culture, and community is not just an idea but a living reality in everyday life.

Head of Jatiluwih Tourism Management, John Ketut Purna, emphasized that this achievement belongs to the entire community.

“This award belongs to all the people of Jatiluwih. We preserve tradition not just to be remembered, but to be lived and passed on to future generations,” he said with gratitude.

For local residents, the Jatiluwih rice terraces are not only a source of food but also a cultural heritage and a prayer embedded in every flow of Subak.

Adding to a List of Global Achievements

This recognition adds to Jatiluwih’s growing list of international accolades. Last year, the village was also named the Best Tourism Village in the World by UN Tourism (2024). Today, Jatiluwih reaffirms its role as a global symbol of sustainable tourism, demonstrating that tourism can bring prosperity without sacrificing cultural identity or environmental integrity.

Looking ahead, Jatiluwih is moving beyond the label of “sustainable” by embracing the concept of regenerative tourism. This approach ensures that every tourism activity not only sustains but also restores ecosystems, strengthens cultural identity, and improves the welfare of local communities.
