BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – The mystery surrounding the identity of a mutilation victim that shocked Bali has finally been solved. Bali Police confirmed that the body parts discovered on Ketewel Beach in Gianyar Regency on February 26, 2026 belong to Ihor Khomarav (28), a Ukrainian national who had previously been reported as a kidnapping victim.
The confirmation came after a series of DNA examinations conducted by the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) Forensic Laboratory.
Head of Public Relations for Bali Police, Senior Commissioner Ariasandy, explained that the body parts found along the coast of Ketewel Beach were previously evacuated to Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar for autopsy and tissue sampling for DNA analysis.
“The body parts were examined through an autopsy and tissue samples were taken for DNA testing,” Ariasandy said in Denpasar on Friday (March 6, 2026).
To verify the victim’s identity, investigators also requested a DNA sample from the victim’s mother in Ukraine as a comparison. The sample was taken on February 25, 2026 and received by investigators a day later.
On March 5, 2026, the forensic laboratory team received six bone samples from the autopsy for further examination. The samples included a molar tooth, collarbone, femur, rib bone, toe bone, and shin bone.
The analysis concluded that all bone samples belonged to the same male individual with XY chromosomes.
In addition, the DNA profile from the body parts matched blood DNA found in a black Toyota Avanza with license plate DK 1373 FAF as well as at a villa in Tabanan believed to be linked to the kidnapping case.
“The comparison results showed a match with the victim’s mother’s DNA profile with a probability of 99.99 percent,” Ariasandy stated.
Based on these findings, police confirmed that the body parts discovered at Ketewel Beach belonged to Ihor Khomarav, the Ukrainian national previously reported missing following a kidnapping.
In the investigation, Bali Police have named six suspects, all of whom are foreign nationals.
The suspects are believed to have fled abroad. Authorities have issued a wanted list and requested Interpol Red Notices to track down the fugitives.
“We continue coordinating with Immigration, the National Police International Relations Division, and Interpol to pursue the suspects who are believed to be overseas,” Ariasandy said.
He added that the suspects are suspected of holding more than one passport, making the international tracking process more complex.
Investigators are still exploring the motive behind the kidnapping and murder.
Police are also examining the possible involvement of other parties, including individuals suspected of providing facilities or playing roles in the kidnapping and assault of the victim.
Authorities are also working to determine the exact location where the killing occurred and the tools used to mutilate the victim’s body.
The case first came to light after human body parts were discovered on Ketewel Beach in Gianyar in a decomposed condition.
“Our team is continuing to gather evidence to fully uncover this case and capture the perpetrators,” Ariasandy concluded. (FF)
