BALINEWSID.COM, JAKARTA – State-owned construction company PT Hutama Karya (Persero) is accelerating the completion of emergency road and bridge rehabilitation projects across Sumatra ahead of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, aiming to restore connectivity for communities affected by natural disasters.

The company has completed the Malalak Disaster Mitigation Project in West Sumatra and is nearing the finish line on the Lembah Anai Emergency Rehabilitation Project, while emergency works continue across several disaster-hit locations in Aceh and North Sumatra.

In West Sumatra, the Malalak project has reached 100 percent completion, replacing temporary emergency measures with permanent infrastructure, including gabion walls, shotcrete, soil nailing, box culverts, drainage systems, and road realignment. The completed works have fully restored the strategic Padang–Bukittinggi corridor, improving road safety and strengthening resilience against future disasters.

Meanwhile, the emergency rehabilitation project along the Padang Panjang–Sicincin (Lembah Anai) section has reached 96.71 percent completion as of early July 2026. Final works include asphalt paving, guardrail installation, street lighting, traffic signs, and road markings. The project is scheduled for completion on July 26, 2026, after major structural works such as soldier piles, gabion walls, slope stabilization using geomats and shotcrete, and road resurfacing were successfully completed.

In Aceh, Hutama Karya continues emergency response projects on three strategic road sections: PPK 3.3 Aceh, PPK 3.4 Gayo Lues–Blangkejeren, and PPK 3.5 Gayo Lues/Aceh Tenggara–Kutacane. The projects include the construction of retaining walls, box culverts, concrete pipes, bored piles, steel truss bridges, and slope protection at landslide-prone locations.

The PPK 3.3 Aceh project recorded 30.46 percent progress as of June 2026, covering repairs at 26 landslide sites and two bridges. Several priority sections have already been completed and reopened to traffic, while additional locations are expected to become operational by Indonesia’s Independence Day on August 17, 2026.

The PPK 3.4 Gayo Lues–Blangkejeren section has achieved 22.41 percent completion, with work underway at 23 locations along the Aceh Tengah–Blangkejeren and Blangkejeren–Aceh Tenggara corridors. The project involves the installation of concrete pipes, cyclopean concrete, retaining walls, and selected embankments to reinforce roads and unstable slopes. Priority sites, including Palok and Ramung, are expected to reopen in August 2026.

Meanwhile, the PPK 3.5 Gayo Lues/Aceh Tenggara–Kutacane project has reached 43 percent completion as of the second week of July 2026. Works are being carried out at six locations, including two bridges and four landslide sites. A key priority is the Lawe Mengkudu Bridge, which is scheduled to become operational in August 2026 to restore connectivity across Aceh Tenggara Regency. Major works such as box culverts, soldier piles, bored piles, retaining walls, and embankments are progressing according to schedule.

In North Sumatra, Hutama Karya is also handling emergency rehabilitation along the Tarutung–Sibolga corridor. As of July 10, 2026, physical progress had reached 24.26 percent, focusing on bored piles, reinforced retaining walls, and concrete wall construction to improve road stability and ensure safer transportation.

Acting Executive Vice President of Corporate Secretary Hamdani said the accelerated post-disaster infrastructure recovery reflects Hutama Karya’s commitment to supporting the government’s efforts to restore public connectivity while strengthening the resilience of Indonesia’s infrastructure.

Beyond restoring transportation access, the projects are expected to improve road safety, facilitate logistics distribution, support local economic activities, and enhance the resilience of Indonesia’s national transportation network against future hydrometeorological disasters.
