House Fire in West Denpasar Leaves Three Injured

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR — A fierce fire engulfed a residential house on Jalan Gunung Mas, Gang Sewu II No. 6A, Banjar Tegal Buah, Padangsambian Klod Village, West Denpasar District, early Wednesday morning at around 2:00 a.m. local time. April 22, 2026.

The blaze completely destroyed the house along with all of its contents. Three occupants were affected, with two suffering burn injuries and one sustaining minor wounds.

The injured were identified as Komang Agus Setiawan (24), who suffered burns to his right hand, and Ni Kadek Supriyati (53), who also sustained burns to her right hand. Meanwhile, Ketut Suliong (52) suffered abrasions to his leg.

According to initial accounts, the fire is suspected to have started when Komang Agus Setiawan was charging his mobile phone, which had been placed on a sofa. After briefly taking the phone to the bathroom, he returned to find smoke emerging from beneath the sofa. When he pulled the sofa, flames suddenly ignited, quickly spreading to nearby fabric and intensifying.

In panic, the victims woke other family members and attempted to save valuables and vehicles. However, the fire rapidly grew out of control, prompting calls for help from nearby residents.

Ketut Suliong also tried to extinguish the flames using buckets of water, but the fire continued to spread. Local residents who heard the cries for help rushed to assist in putting out the fire manually before firefighters arrived.

A witness, I Ketut Suarnata (30), said he heard shouting at around 2:00 a.m. and saw flames already spreading from inside the house when he stepped outside. He immediately joined others in trying to extinguish the fire and salvage belongings.

Firefighters from the Denpasar Fire Department deployed three fire engines to the scene. The blaze was fully extinguished at approximately 3:40 a.m.

In addition to the house, three motorcycles — a Yamaha Filano, Kawasaki KLX, and Honda Spacy — as well as a washing machine were destroyed in the fire.

Head of Public Relations for Denpasar Police, Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, confirmed the incident and stated that the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
