BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – A joint task force involving the Badung Police, the Bali Police Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum), the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigation Directorate, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, and Soekarno-Hatta Immigration has successfully solved the shooting case at The Shady Pig nightclub in Canggu, Badung. The suspect, identified by the initials H.S.H. (49), was arrested less than 24 hours after the incident.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday (July 20, 2026), Badung Police Chief AKBP Joseph Edward Purba said the swift arrest was the result of close inter-agency cooperation in investigating illegal firearm possession and aggravated assault.

The case began with Police Report No. LP/B/173/VII/2026/SPKT/Polres Badung/Polda Bali following a shooting that occurred at approximately 2:50 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA) on Friday (July 17, 2026), at The Shady Pig, located on Jalan Pantai Berawa No. 168, Berawa, Canggu, North Kuta District, Badung Regency.

According to investigators, H.S.H., a resident of North Cipete, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, allegedly opened fire while intoxicated and enraged after becoming involved in an altercation with other patrons inside the nightclub.

As the fight escalated, nightclub security officer I.M.Y.M. (32) and a 25-year-old Moroccan national identified as E.A. attempted to break up the confrontation. During the intervention, the suspect, who was carrying a firearm, allegedly fired a single shot.

The bullet struck I.M.Y.M. in the left thigh before passing through and hitting E.A. in the knee. Another witness also sustained a head injury after being struck by shattered glass during the incident.

Both victims were initially taken to a nearby clinic before being transferred to Lira Medika Hospital for further medical treatment.

During searches and evidence collection, investigators seized a number of items, including a metal projectile, CCTV recordings, a Glock pistol bearing serial number BATV955, 12 rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition, a firearm holster, three 17-round magazines, and one 31-round magazine.

Police said the investigation included crime scene processing, forensic medical examinations, witness and victim interviews, seizure of evidence, intelligence operations, and the eventual arrest of the suspect.

H.S.H. has been charged under Article 306 of Indonesia’s Criminal Code for the illegal possession, control, and use of firearms and ammunition, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years’ imprisonment. He is also charged under Article 466 paragraph (2) concerning aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, punishable by up to five years in prison.

Bali Police emphasized that the successful resolution of the case demonstrates law enforcement’s commitment to maintaining public safety and order, particularly against crimes that threaten security and Bali’s reputation as a world-class tourist destination. Authorities pledged to take firm action against anyone whose criminal acts endanger residents and visitors on the Island of the Gods.
