BALINEWSID.COM, KUPANG – Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has praised significant improvements in public services at the Kupang Immigration Office in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), particularly the faster processing of passports.

The commission conducted a working visit to the Kupang Immigration Office on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, as part of its recess agenda in NTT from July 22 to 26. The visit aimed to directly review immigration services, evaluate performance, and assess infrastructure and facilities supporting immigration services in the region.

The delegation was received by Saroha Manullang, Head of the NTT Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, along with heads of immigration offices and the Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) under the NTT regional office.

During the visit, members of Commission XIII highlighted the improvements in public services at the Kupang Immigration Office. Commission XIII member Umbu Kabunang Rudi Yanto Hunga said he had observed significant changes compared with his previous visit, particularly in passport processing times.

“I have come here for the second time, and there have been many changes, especially in the services. Passport processing is now much faster. It can be completed in three days,” Umbu said.

He noted that applicants submitting their passport applications on Friday could collect their passports on Monday, with Sunday not counted as a working day. The improvement was viewed as an important achievement in providing faster and more efficient services to the public.

Despite the improvements, the delegation also pointed to limited space in the main service area. Commission XIII delegation leader Andreas Hugo Pareira said an unused space at the back of the office could potentially be developed to increase service capacity.

“The service area is limited. However, there is still an empty space at the back that could be supported with additional infrastructure and used to expand services,” Andreas said.

He said utilizing the available space could help improve capacity and make the service process more comfortable for members of the public, reducing the need for applicants to wait outside the main service area.

Meanwhile, Saroha Manullang explained that Timor-Leste is one of the main international destinations for residents of Kupang. The close geographical proximity and strong social and family ties between communities in NTT and Timor-Leste contribute to significant cross-border mobility.

Commission XIII member Saadiah Uluputy also praised the quality of services provided by the Kupang Immigration Office. She emphasized that the close historical, cultural, and social relationship between NTT and Timor-Leste makes immigration services in Kupang strategically important in supporting cross-border movement.

Commission XIII members Rapidin Simbolon and Frederik Kalalembang also expressed their appreciation for the transformation of the immigration office. They described the facility as more modern, stylish, and aligned with service standards.

At the end of the visit, Commission XIII said it would conduct a more detailed review through a presentation on the performance of the NTT Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration.

Saroha Manullang thanked Commission XIII for its appreciation and constructive input. He said the unused space highlighted during the visit would be utilized as soon as possible to support improved public services.

Further details regarding the achievements and performance of the NTT Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration will be presented during the commission’s follow-up review at the regional office.
