Denpasar Police Uncover 28 Theft Cases, Arrest 34 Suspects During May 2026 Crackdown

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – The Criminal Investigation Unit of Denpasar City Police (Satreskrim Polresta Denpasar) and its precinct units successfully uncovered 28 criminal cases related to “4C” crimes throughout May 2026, resulting in the arrest of 34 suspects, including a repeat motorcycle theft offender.

The case disclosures were presented during a press conference held on Monday (May 25, 2026).

The cases consisted of 12 motorcycle thefts (curanmor) involving 14 male suspects, six aggravated theft cases (curat) involving eight male suspects and one female suspect, one violent theft or robbery case (curas) involving one male suspect, and nine ordinary theft cases involving 10 male suspects.

In total, police handled 28 cases with 34 suspects, consisting of 33 men and one woman.

One of the highlighted cases involved the arrest of recidivist motorcycle thief Edi Siswanto, 42, a driver from Jember, East Java. He was arrested in connection with a motorcycle theft that occurred in front of an antique shop on Jalan Gunung Atena No. 54, Padangsambian Kelod, West Denpasar, on April 30, 2026.

Police said the suspect took advantage of the victim’s negligence after the motorcycle was left unattended with the key still attached. Edi allegedly acted as the executor of the theft and had previously been imprisoned for a similar crime handled by Denpasar Police.

Authorities also seized a large number of evidences, including cash, bank account statements, mobile phones, sharp weapons, and several stolen motorcycles.

The confiscated vehicles included a 2024 Honda Beat, Yamaha NMax, Honda Scoopy, Yamaha Freego, and Honda Vario motorcycles. Officers also secured several mobile phones, including an iPhone 11, iPhone 16 Pro, and Xiaomi phone.

Additional evidences included an online motorcycle taxi vest, helmets, two knives, clothing allegedly used during the crimes, 258 packs of cigarettes of various brands, and four gas cylinders.

The suspects have been charged under Articles 476, 477, and 479 of the Indonesian Criminal Code, carrying maximum prison sentences of five, seven, and nine years respectively.

Denpasar Police stated they will continue intensifying patrols and law enforcement efforts to suppress theft-related crimes and maintain public security across the city.
