Consignment Warehouse Fire at Mitra 10 in Denpasar Destroys Supplier Goods

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR — A fire broke out at a supplier consignment warehouse located within the Mitra 10 area on Jalan Tegal Dukuh I, Denpasar, on Tuesday (April 21) at approximately 08:30 WITA. The incident destroyed various supplier-owned goods, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The affected warehouse is a consignment facility managed directly by suppliers, with the property owned by PT Catur Mitra Sejati Sentosa. No casualties were reported, but material losses are believed to be significant.

A witness, Oktovianus Saekoko (38), said he was working in the western section of the warehouse when the incident occurred. He initially noticed smoke, which he thought came from burning trash, but it quickly turned thick and black.

“I saw heavy smoke coming from the consignment warehouse. I grabbed a fire extinguisher to put it out, but it didn’t work. I immediately shouted for help to colleagues in the eastern warehouse,” he said.

Initial firefighting efforts using portable fire extinguishers (APAR) by employees failed to contain the flames. The fire rapidly intensified despite attempts to suppress it using the building’s hydrant system.

Another witness, warehouse head Ketut Suprasa (41), said he received a report of the fire at around 09:00 WITA while in the eastern warehouse. He rushed to the scene and found the fire had already grown large.

“We immediately tried to extinguish the fire with extinguishers alongside security personnel and promptly contacted the fire department,” he explained.

The fire was eventually brought under control after eight fire engines from the Denpasar Fire Department were deployed to the scene. Firefighting efforts continued until the flames were completely extinguished.

Items belonging to suppliers stored inside the warehouse that were destroyed in the fire included kitchen sinks, built-in stoves, kitchen exhaust systems, water heaters, and meat grilling machines.

At 11:39 WITA, officers from the Identification Unit of Denpasar Police conducted a crime scene investigation. However, by the time of inspection, the area had already been cleared, making it difficult to determine the exact origin point of the fire.

Police, through the Public Relations Section of Denpasar Police, stated that the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause. The management of Mitra 10 has also been advised to file an official report to facilitate further legal proceedings.
