BALINEWSID.COM, WAINGAPU, East Sumba –  Efforts to establish an Immigration Office in East Sumba are gaining momentum as the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration strengthens coordination with the East Sumba Regency Government, July 31, 2026.

The acceleration was discussed during a meeting held at the East Sumba Regent’s Office on Friday, focusing on concrete steps toward the operation of the proposed immigration office.

The meeting covered preparations for a temporary office, the provision of supporting facilities and infrastructure, as well as plans to provide land through a grant for the construction of a permanent immigration office.

The Regent of East Sumba expressed the local government’s commitment to supporting the provision of facilities and infrastructure, as well as facilitating the land-grant process for the construction of the permanent office.

The Head of the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration said the establishment of the East Sumba Immigration Office was a strategic necessity, given the wide service area, increasing public mobility and the region’s growing potential in tourism, investment and cross-border activities.

An Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission XIII member also welcomed the cooperation established between the central and regional governments. The legislator said strong collaboration was essential to accelerating the realization of the East Sumba Immigration Office, which has long been anticipated by communities across Sumba Island.

The meeting brought together representatives of the East Sumba Regency Government, the East Sumba Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), DPR RI Commission XIII, the Directorate General of Immigration and the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections.

The proposed immigration office is expected to make immigration services more accessible, faster and more effective for people in Sumba. Its establishment is also expected to strengthen immigration supervision while supporting investment, tourism and regional development.

The initiative marks another step toward bringing government services closer to communities on Sumba Island and strengthening institutional support for the region’s future growth.
