BALINEWSID.COM, JEMBRANA — The Bali Regional Leadership Council (DPD) of the Democratic Party mobilized around 250 cadres to carry out a clean-up campaign at Dang Kahyangan Rambut Siwi Temple in Jembrana, Bali, on Friday (August 14, 2026).

The activity was part of the Blue Sky Movement (Gerakan Langit Biru) and a series of events marking the Democratic Party’s 25th anniversary. The campaign involved the party’s provincial and regency-level leadership, Democratic Party legislators in Jembrana, sub-district and village-level party structures, as well as cadres from across Jembrana.

The cadres cleaned the temple compound, surrounding areas and sections of the coastal environment.

Bali Democratic Party Chairman I Made Mudarta said the campaign reflected the party’s commitment to protecting Bali’s environment. He stressed that waste management should begin at its source rather than allowing waste to accumulate in urban areas.

“Our vision going forward is to strengthen villages by establishing waste-processing facilities in every village. That way, waste does not have to be transported from one village to another,” Mudarta said.

He warned that waste remains a serious challenge for Bali’s image as a world-class tourism destination, particularly because international tourists frequently pass through urban areas where waste problems can be visible and even cause unpleasant odors.

“If we want Bali to remain the best destination in the world, we have to solve the waste problem,” he said.

Mudarta urged the government to provide waste-processing equipment at the village level. With 716 villages across Bali, he said, establishing waste-processing facilities in each village could not only reduce the movement of waste but also create new economic opportunities for local communities.

“Waste should be dealt with at the village level. But villages need the necessary equipment. We hope the government will give greater attention to providing waste-processing machines in every village so that the village economy can also grow,” he said.

Mudarta emphasized that environmental campaigns should not be limited to ceremonial activities. Political leaders and party cadres, he said, must set an example for the public.

“The duty of a leader is to set an example. Waste is our shared responsibility,” he stressed.

He also linked environmental protection to Tri Hita Karana, the Balinese philosophy emphasizing harmony between humans and God, humans and one another, and humans and the natural environment.

“Keeping the environment clean is part of maintaining balance in life,” he said.

The choice of Rambut Siwi Temple as the location for the campaign was significant. The temple is one of Jembrana’s important Dang Kahyangan temples and holds considerable spiritual and historical value for the Balinese community.

In addition to the clean-up campaign, Democratic Party cadres planted 10 trees, consisting of five ylang-ylang trees and five cempaka trees. The event also featured a community gathering and traditional games, including tug-of-war and sack races, aimed at strengthening interaction between party cadres and local residents.

As part of the Democratic Party’s 25th anniversary celebrations, the cadres also released 25 pigeons as symbols of peace, tranquility, loyalty and commitment.

Mudarta said loyalty remains an important foundation for building a strong organization.

“There are many smart and wealthy people. But finding people who are truly loyal and committed is more difficult. That is the key to building an organization,” he said.

He added that the activities were part of instructions from Democratic Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) ahead of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day and the party’s 25th anniversary.

Similar environmental activities, Mudarta said, would continue to be held in other parts of Bali. The party wants to demonstrate that political activities should not be confined to formal political spaces but should also directly benefit communities.

“The Democratic Party fights alongside the people and remains close to the people,” Mudarta said.

Through the Blue Sky Movement, the Bali Democratic Party is positioning environmental protection and waste management as part of its community-oriented political agenda, while encouraging collective responsibility to keep Bali clean, sustainable and attractive as a leading global tourism destination.
