BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR — Police in Denpasar have swiftly arrested five suspects in connection with a brutal assault that left two men dead at Benoa Port, less than 10 hours after the incident occurred. April 10, 2026.
The joint operation involved the Criminal Investigation Unit of Benoa Port Police, backed by the Bali Police’s Jatanras Unit and Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Division. The attack took place at around 4:30 a.m. local time on Friday in the Benoa Port area.
Denpasar Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Leonardo D. Simatupang, identified the victims as Egi Ramadan (30) from West Java and Dan Hisam Adnan (30) from Central Java. Both were found dead with burn injuries on parts of their bodies.

Authorities arrested five suspects, identified by their initials as SA, DH, NU, DR, and IS, all reportedly from West Java. The arrests were carried out at multiple locations across Denpasar.
“This quick breakthrough was made possible thanks to reports from local community leaders and pecalang (traditional security officers),” Simatupang said, accompanied by the Head of Criminal Investigation and the Benoa Police Chief.
Head of Criminal Investigation at Denpasar Police, Commissioner Agus Riwayanto, explained that suspect NU was first apprehended at Benoa Port at 12:45 p.m. local time. Three others — IS, DH, and DR — were arrested at a boarding house on Jalan Tukad Badung, South Denpasar, at around 1:30 p.m., while suspect SA was captured on Jalan Batas Dukuh Sari at approximately 2:45 p.m.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident began when victim Egi, along with Hisam and a witness identified as Budi, were drinking alcohol at the port’s dock. Under the influence, Egi allegedly contacted suspect IS via video call and threatened to kill him for leaving him during a drinking session.
The situation escalated after both parties agreed to meet. The victims later arrived at a location on a road within the Benoa Port area, where they were reportedly intoxicated and sitting when the suspects arrived on motorcycles.
The five suspects then launched a violent attack, beating the victims with bare hands, stones, and wooden blocks, as well as repeatedly kicking them. During the assault, the witness Budi managed to flee the scene.
Approximately 30 minutes later, after the situation appeared to calm down, Budi returned and found both victims still alive but severely injured. However, the suspects allegedly returned to the scene and continued the assault. In a final act of violence, they reportedly doused the victims with gasoline and set them on fire before fleeing.
When Budi returned again, he found both victims burned and believed to be dead. He then sought help from nearby residents.
The suspects have been charged under Article 468 paragraph (2) of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, concerning aggravated assault resulting in death, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
Police stated that the investigation is ongoing.
