200 Bali Junior High Students Join PASSION #5 to Boost HIV/AIDS and Drug Prevention Awareness

BALINEWSID.COM, GIANYAR – Around 200 junior high school students from across Bali participated in PASSION #5 (KSPAN Suksma Championship #5), an educational competition organized by the Student Group for AIDS and Drug Awareness (KSPAN) of SMA Negeri 1 Sukawati on Tuesday (June 23, 2026). The annual event aims to strengthen young people’s understanding of HIV/AIDS, drug abuse (NAPZA), and reproductive health.

Carrying the theme “Young People Create, Achieve, and Excel,” the event featured four competitions: Peer Educator, Quiz Bowl, Poster Design, and Public Speaking. Students from junior high schools across the province competed while gaining valuable knowledge on health-related issues.

The event was officially opened by Anak Agung Bagus Suryawan, S.AP., M.AP., Head of the Special Education and Special Services Division at the Bali Provincial Education, Youth and Sports Office, representing the Daily Chair of the Bali AIDS Commission (KPA Bali), who is also the Deputy Governor of Bali.

Principal of SMA Negeri 1 Sukawati, I Wayan Widia, S.Pd., M.Pd., said the competition is designed to encourage greater youth participation while promoting healthy lifestyles among teenagers.

“Through this event, we aim to strengthen solidarity among young people across Bali, encourage healthy behavior so they can become a generation free from HIV/AIDS and drug abuse, and foster healthy competition among participants,” he said.

Winners in each competition received trophies, certificates, and cash prizes. The organizing committee also presented an Overall Champion award consisting of a rotating trophy, certificate, and financial reward.

Meanwhile, the school’s Vice Principal for Public Relations, Ni Wayan Nopi Sutantri, explained that SMA Negeri 1 Sukawati has long operated the KSPAN extracurricular program, which provides education on HIV/AIDS, narcotics, psychotropic substances and other addictive drugs (NAPZA), as well as reproductive health.

She said the school has collaborated with the Bali Provincial AIDS Commission since the first PASSION event was held.

“PASSION serves as a platform for junior high school students across Bali to demonstrate their understanding of HIV/AIDS, NAPZA, and reproductive health. Our collaboration with KPA Bali has continued since the inaugural event,” she said.

Head of the Secretariat of the Bali Provincial AIDS Commission, Anak Agung Patria Nugraha, described PASSION #5 as an annual program aimed at increasing youth participation in health promotion and disease prevention.

He said the educational competitions are expected to improve students’ understanding of reproductive health, HIV/AIDS prevention, and the dangers of drug abuse.

“We hope PASSION will have a positive impact on young people in Bali by increasing their awareness of health issues, particularly HIV/AIDS prevention and the dangers of narcotics and drug abuse,” he said.
