BALINEWSID.COM, JAKARTA — Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported a series of floods and forest and land fires in several parts of the country as of Monday (September 28, 2026), with 160 houses affected by flooding and at least 203 hectares of land burned in separate fire incidents.

In Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi, flooding hit four villages in Toribulu District following heavy rainfall on Sunday (September 27).

The affected areas were Toribulu Selatan, Tomoli Utara, Sibalago and Singura villages. A preliminary assessment found that 160 houses and three public facilities were affected by the flooding.

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), together with joint response teams, carried out emergency measures in the affected areas. The floodwaters have since receded.

Flooding was also reported in Langkat Regency, North Sumatra, on Sunday following heavy rainfall. The flooding affected Padang Tualang, Sawit Seberang and Wampu districts.

Water levels ranged from 10 to 80 centimeters. Based on visual monitoring, the floodwaters have begun to recede. The local BPBD has prepared emergency response measures and assistance for affected residents.

Meanwhile, forest and land fires were reported in several areas.

In Wonogiri Regency, Central Java, a fire was detected in Ngadirojo Village, Ngadirojo District, at around 4:38 p.m. local time on Sunday. The fire burned approximately two hectares of land before being extinguished by the joint response team.

Another land fire occurred in Uekuli Village, Tojo District, Tojo Una-Una Regency, Central Sulawesi. The fire was detected at around 2 a.m. local time on Sunday and burned approximately one hectare of land.

The fire was brought under control by a joint team involving the local BPBD, firefighters, the Indonesian Military (TNI), Manggala Agni, and local residents.

A significantly larger fire was reported in Tuban Regency, East Java. Fire hotspots were observed on Saturday (September 26) in Warung and Rawasan villages, Jenu District.

Dry land conditions caused the fire to spread rapidly, burning approximately 200 hectares. The fire was extinguished on Sunday, while authorities are still investigating its cause.

In response to the series of disasters, BNPB urged residents and local governments to strengthen preparedness and remain alert to potential hazards.

Residents in areas vulnerable to flooding are advised to identify safe evacuation routes and evacuate independently if heavy rainfall occurs for an extended period and conditions become unsafe.

BNPB also urged the public to help prevent forest and land fires by avoiding the burning of forests, land and waste. Residents are encouraged to immediately report any fire hotspots or signs of land fires to authorities so that they can be dealt with at an early stage.

BNPB warned that forest and land fires can damage the environment and affect air quality, public health, economic activities and social life in affected areas.
