BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – March 21, 2026, The Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections on Saturday granted special sentence reductions to inmates and juvenile detainees across correctional facilities in the province in celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.
The remission program was carried out simultaneously in 11 correctional units, comprising six prisons, four detention centers, and one juvenile correctional facility.
Head of the Bali Regional Office, Decky Nurmansyah, said the policy is part of fulfilling the legal rights of eligible inmates while also recognizing good behavior during incarceration. He added that the initiative aims to strengthen national awareness and foster a sense of patriotism among inmates.
“As of March 2026, the total number of correctional residents in Bali stands at 4,654, including 1,031 detainees and 3,623 convicted prisoners,” Decky said.

Out of that number, 1,639 inmates received Eid al-Fitr special remission. A total of 1,613 inmates were granted Remission Type I, which reduces part of their sentence, while 26 inmates received Remission Type II and were released immediately after the reduction.
Initially, 1,671 individuals had been proposed to receive remission, consisting of 1,670 inmates and one juvenile detainee. However, not all proposals were approved in the final realization.
Among the recipients, 15 were foreign nationals—14 men and one woman—while 1,627 were Indonesian citizens, including 1,510 men and 117 women.
The remission program is implemented in accordance with Law No. 22 of 2022 on Corrections, Presidential Decree No. 174 of 1999 on Remission, and several ministerial regulations issued in 2026.
Decky expressed hope that the remission would motivate inmates to maintain good conduct and actively participate in rehabilitation programs, enabling them to reintegrate into society as better individuals.
