BALINEWSID.COM, TABANAN — The Tabanan Immigration Office has taken action against a Nigerian national who was found to have overstayed in Indonesia for more than eight years and had an expired passport.

The man, identified as Maduabuchi John Ndummadu, was apprehended on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, after immigration officers followed up on a public report concerning the presence of a foreign national allegedly violating immigration regulations in East Selemadeg, Tabanan Regency.

The Immigration Intelligence and Enforcement Team from the Tabanan Immigration Office, accompanied by officers from the East Selemadeg Police Sector and local Pecalang security personnel, went to a rented house at Graha Kita Housing Complex, Bantas Village, East Selemadeg District.

Upon arrival, officers found Maduabuchi at the rented residence and asked him to retrieve his passport. Instead, he fled toward a nearby plantation area.

The officers, assisted by police and Pecalang personnel, pursued him and eventually managed to apprehend him. He was then taken to the Tabanan Immigration Office for further examination.

The immigration investigation found that Maduabuchi had entered Indonesia with a 30-day Visit Stay Permit under Visa Index 211, which had expired on February 28, 2018.

His passport had also expired on March 30, 2022.

Based on the examination, the Nigerian national was deemed to have violated Article 78 Paragraph (3) of Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration, concerning foreign nationals who remain in Indonesian territory after their stay permits have expired.

Following the examination and in accordance with applicable regulations, Tabanan Immigration imposed administrative immigration measures in the form of deportation and a ban on re-entry.

Maduabuchi was subsequently transferred to the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim Denpasar) for detention pending his deportation to Nigeria.

The Tabanan Immigration Office said the enforcement action reflects its commitment to upholding immigration law and ensuring that foreign nationals residing and conducting activities within its jurisdiction comply with Indonesian immigration regulations.
