BALINEWSID.COM, NUSA PENIDA – A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team evacuated a man who was found dead at the bottom of a well in Bunga Mekar Village, Nusa Penida District, Klungkung Regency, on Monday (May 25, 2026).
The victim was identified as Wayan Lanang (36), a resident of Banjar Pundukaha Kelod. He had reportedly been missing since Sunday (May 24, 2026).
The Denpasar Search and Rescue Office received information about the incident at around 1:00 p.m. local time from Wahyu, a local military officer (Babinsa) of Bunga Mekar Village. Initial searches had already been carried out by the victim’s family and local residents after he failed to return home.

Residents then drained the water from the well using a water pump and eventually found the victim at the bottom of the well, approximately four meters deep. However, they experienced difficulties evacuating the victim and requested assistance from the SAR team.
Responding to the report, four personnel from the Nusa Penida Search and Rescue Standby Unit were deployed to the scene at 1:20 p.m. and arrived at around 2:00 p.m. They immediately coordinated with other joint SAR personnel before conducting the evacuation process.
“At around 2:40 p.m., the victim was successfully evacuated in deceased condition and was subsequently handed over to the family,” Cakra Negara stated.
The joint SAR operation involved personnel from the Nusa Penida Search and Rescue Standby Unit, Babinsa of Bunga Mekar Village, Bhabinkamtibmas of Bunga Mekar Village, Nusa Penida Police personnel, Klungkung Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), village officials, the victim’s family, and local residents.
